My daughter, who is unemployed, and I went to this facility yesterday. Because my GPS kept saying that the facility was on the right, and it's a new facility (and a four-lane highway), we kept looking for the building on the right. However, after a couple tries and turning around, I spotted it on the other side of the road. We were about 4 minutes late for an 8:30 a.m. appointment. When my daughter explained this to the receptionist at the desk (an older Black lady), she proceed to roll her head and make it obvious that she didn't like my daughter, even though I made it a point to be friendly and say "Good Morning" with a smile. She barely acknowledged my greeting and proceed to point out to my daughter that she could try to go into the room where the appointment was to be held, although she said the instructor might not let her in...because she was late. The door was still open, so my daughter, being respectful, stood in the doorway waiting to be acknowledge by the lady (also another Black lady). She moved around the room, passing out papers to those seated, came back to her desk a couple of times, and never acknowledged my daughter at all. By that time, my daughter was thoroughly upset and decided to leave. The receptionist upon seeing that she was upset, asked if she wanted to see a manager, which she did. She went to the location as directed, and sat down, but although a group of (again Black ladies) were all standing around in a group talking, no one ever acknowledge her, and she came back and said she was leaving. I can't vouch for the other Blacks in the office, but the one that we dealt with upfront was very obviously racist. You could read it in her manner and how she dealt with both of us. I know that these are tense times racially, with all the riots going on, but when you treat someone with respect (as we both did) race should not come into the issue. Because my daughter suffers from a stress disorder anyway, this totally destroyed her opportunity to even try for unemployment.
