I've been storing my boat at Shelter Bay Marina for a couple of years. During that time their team has worked on various issues with my boat (28' Pursuit circa 2000 with twin 2-stroke Yamaha 200s). Issues ranged from lower end replacement, electrical problems, macerator and fresh water pump replacement plus general tune-ups. The work was done professionally and the pricing was fair and competitive. I would recommend Shelter Bay Marina to both residents and tourists.

What a rip off. I took my boat in for service for my twin Yamaha motors. I was quoted $1600. I asked if that included plugs. I was told yes. When I picked the boat up, they said they weren't necessary. Several days after I left the boat, I got a call that one of the computers had failed and it would be $1500 for the part. (actual list price).

The motor was running perfectly when I brought it in, Could it have failed, when they had it, possibly but highly unlikely. I asked that a head be installed. Quoted 2 hours labor. When I picked it up, I was billed 5 hours. This was an exact replacement only requiring two hoses and 3 mounting screws. I inquired, did they check it. Only tried the motor. Surely in 5 hours, they could have run some water through it. Billed $120 per hour. Final bill was $4200. I used to buy fuel there. NEVER AGAIN

They love to suck the money right out of you! My engines were under warranty and still payed 3,000! On top of that The mechanic made marks all over the boat with his tools. I know need to repair all the scratches and marks! I hate this place!

Overall

We just returned from a fun vacation where we stayed in Marathon. I brought my Sailfish 2100 bay with me hoping to get some fishing in. Right off the trailer I knew something was wrong as the engine would not idle.

I reached Shelter Bay Marina from a suggestion of a mobile marine guy local to Marathon and they told me to bring the boat in and they would fit me in.

I got a call late Monday to let me know they found the issue and would check on parts early Tuesday morning. I called Tuesday at 9:30 am and the bad news was given. 2 carbs needed replaced due to the air/fuel mixture screws being broke off. I tried to find some local but no go, so I went to pick the boat up.

THIS IS WHERE IT GOT INTERESTING

I get there and they show me what they have found. I go to pay them for the labor that they had spent chasing my issue and the gentleman says to me that they did not fix the problem so there is NO CHARGE. I insisted on paying them something as I know they spent an hour or two and they would NOT take it.

This is the kind of customer service that I can only dream of having in NE Florida!!

I finally found carbs on Friday (used) on deer key and took to them to clean and this time, I insisted on paying them (we agreed on 1 hour labor) to just clean the carbs.

I will ALWAYS remember this and will recommened this place to anyone and everyone I know that visits that area. A TRUE class act of a company and you guys are lucky to have that there!!!!

I believe the mechanic that looked my engine was Gary. Thanks so much for being honest and helpful!!
