If you are over the age of 65, Medicare will cover the cost of cataract surgery along with a conventional “monofocal” IOL. Patients electing monofocal IOLs typically have both eyes corrected for clear distant vision, while they often have to rely on readers or bifocal glasses for intermediate and near vision.

Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetes is a disease that affects the blood vessels throughout the body, particularly vessels in the kidney and eye. When the blood vessels in the eye are affected, this is called diabetic retinopathy. The retina lies in the back of the eye and is a multi-layered tissue that detects visual images and transmits these to the brain. When blood vessels in the retina are damaged due to diabetes, they may leak blood or fluid. Fluid leakage, known as diabetic macular edema, affects the ability of the retina to detect and transmit images.

After completing her ophthalmology residency, she did an additional two years of oculofacial plastic surgery fellowship training certified by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS).
