I've been going to the Goldenrod since I was 5 years old (that was 1956) when my Dad took me there. I'm told I had a hotdog, french fries and a dish of chocolate icecream. Every time we were anywhere near Manchester, we'd stop for my Dad's favorite--Fried Belly Clams--not those weak flavorless clam strips, but the real deal. I introduced my future bride to the Goldenrod by a motorcycle trip from Portland, Maine one Saturday. We would treat our kids to a trip to the Goldenrod while they were growing up and both of them have brought their families there, all the way from Florida to introduce their kids. There are a lot of restaurants with more ambiance and fancier service, but none with more old-time value and heart. Great food and Ice cream. Do yourself a favor and try it out. I will be again this October when I make my annual Pilgrimage to the North Country.
