Central Alternator Starter

Central Alternators and Starters is the real deal - Steve is brilliant, patient, and honest. He has a passion and sense of customer service that I have rarely seen in NoVA. He gave up at least an hour of his time to talk about the starting system on my classic VW Beetle; this car is a real Frankenstein (64 body, 64 wiring, 67 engine and tranny, alternator, 12V conversion, etc, etc, and he helped me work through my starter, my ring gear specs, power required, etc, etc. He ultimately put my starter on his bench, took it apart, inspected it, and tested it, all while I stood there and watched. When it passed, he wouldnt take my money, I had to slip cash under a starter on his counter. This is not your pristine, eat off the counter shop - this is a working man's shop run by a car guy who has forgotten more about cars than I will ever know. I have rebuilt engines, transmissions, brake systems, rewired a classic Mustang, done interiors, etc and have degrees in aero engineering and physics - Steve got out a pad of paper and took me to auto electrical school, plus threw in some alligator clips so I could build new test leads at home. Oh by the way, all this at no charge.... he then said to call him on his cell if I got stuck. Don't come here if you are the guy who gets his wipers installed at Advance Auto; if you are a handy DIY person who hates throwing away stuff that can be fixed, then Steve is your guy.
