All it takes is a little preparation to get your car winter-ready and to keep from getting into an icy situation.
It’s time to bring long sleeves and long pants out of storage, prep your home and car, and contact the cool weather home/yard contractors.
Ever since Kevin opened shop, I've stopped taking my car to Goodyear or the dealer. I have a 1995 Infiniti with 145k miles on it & I didn't want to spend the money to go to a dealership (which I did only once when I bought this car a year ago) & get 3rd class service at high price. Needless to say, taking the car to a dealer is not a smart move. Since then, I've been looking for a shop where I can get good service and fair prices. My search came to an end when I found Complete Auto Care. I can't remember the first job I took the car in for, but it was kind of a test case to see what kind of service I would get. I was so blown away by Kevin's & his Dad's service, that I never hesitated to take my car back to them. Since then I've had over $2k worth of repairs & maintenance done at nothing but great prices and even greater service. With every repair, Kevin takes the time to explain what could be wrong, he then confirms it and offers his suggestions on what repairs to get done. To be cautious, I usually get quotes from a few other shops, too. He has always beaten their quotes w/o me having to even share what others were quoting. A great perk is that I can drop off my car at his shop, he'll give me a ride to and from the VRE station so that I don't end up spending a weekend to get my car fixed. Now, you can imagine, if you were to leave your car at a repair shop and you were at the mercy of the shop manager to correctly diagnose a problem & suggest repairs, you are probably going to get more than you needed & naturally pay more; NOT the case with Kevin. He is truly a professional and is one of those car repair professionals that are even harder to find than a bald eagle. HIS SERVICE IS UNMATCHED in the car repair industry. Not only does he understand that you don't want to overhaul your car, he understands that some people (like me) like to see the work that was done. He does a fantastic job of explaining what he did & even shows the parts he replaced. YOU WILL NOT FIND THIS KIND OF SERVICE ANYWHERE ELSE. Even though I've had a car where I've had to spend so much money to keep it running, I'm so glad I've been taking it to Kevin and not to the cleaners. :-)
The guys at Complete Auto Care Inc. are excellent and have diagnosed and fixed our car problems in very short periods of time and at very REASONABLE RATES. They have always verified with us work that needs to be done and the costs involved BEFORE they started. They also take the time to explain WHAT is broken, HOW it broke, what OPTIONS there are to fix it and how much will it COST ...... and they do this BEFORE THEY EVEN START the work. Their hours are great; even open 1/2 days on SATURDAYS. And their their SCHEDULE IS FLEXIBLE if you schedule things ahead of time; they have come in EARLY so that I can drop off my car, stay LATE so that you can pick up your car after work, they have dropped me off and picked me up at the VRE, and they have even picked us up and dropped us off when we did not have a car ride. An example of their excellent service is the time that my FORMER MECHANIC could not find the source of excessive vibration at speed on my front end. He was sure that it was an issue with the brand new tires I bought and they needed to be rotated. Even after the rotation it did not get much better. I went to Kevin and he drove my car for less than 5 minutes and verified that it was indeed the wheel bearings. I dropped off the car the next morning and he had them done before the end of the day ..... BEFORE he had originally said they would be done :-) You can't go wrong with Complete Auto Care Inc., they are a family run business that always goes Above & Beyond.
I brought my 1983 Mustang down to Walt's Auto Service after someone had recommended their services to me. I had a LOCAL DEALERSHIP, who shall remain anonamous at this time, tell me that I needed a new clutch for my Mustang, costing me in excess of $600.00!!!!!!! I spoke to the service writer at Walt's, who, by the way, seemed to be extremely knowledgable and articulated in his description of the Mustang, and he explained to me in understandable terms, the probable, and possible, reasons for my clutch problem. He informed me that the technicians at Walts will conduct a full 30 point inspection, and properly diagnose my issue for me without delay. Well, it turns out, that all I needed was an adjustment of my clutch cable itself!! Not a new clutch!!!!!, like this SO-CALLED FORD DEALER had previously informed me of !!!!! All I can say is, THANKS SO VERY MUCH!!!!!, for the Honesty and Intergrity, and getting a reasonable and fair charge, instead of $600.00!! These guys at Walt's have PROFESSIONALISM !!!!! and Awesome Customer Service, not to mention being FAIR and STRAIGHT - TALKING. I would recommend Walt's to everyone who wants a REAL, HONEST, and CUSTOMER FRIENDLY, treatment for all of their Automotive needs!!!!!
I am a graduate student living down the street from Coho on the Prince William Campus, and I cannot recommend this place enough. After having some negative experiences at other places since moving here, Coho has given me such piece of mind that my car is receiving exceptional care. I also know that when I come to Coho, I will not be sold things that my car doesn't need, which was unfortunately the case at other places. My dad also feels relieved knowing that my car is being taken care of by such a great place, since I am much less knowledgeable about cars and am living on my own. The owners and people who work at Coho also make coming in such a great experience! They are so nice and friendly, and always do their best to care for my car as soon as they can. I never have had to wait very long for the services, although with the setup of the waiting area, I would be fine spending an entire afternoon or day here for bigger repairs! There are comfortable chairs, wifi, a big tv, a Keurig coffee machine, and even a toy area if you have kids!!! Come to Coho, you will not be disappointed :)
I have been taking my car to Convenience for several years. The first time I used them, I needed some repair work on a car I recently purchased used. Timmy found out that there the repairs were covered by the extended warranty on the car that I didn't even know I had. Instead of having me come and get the car, he transported it to the dealer, and then transported it back to his shop after the repairs were completed. The only thing he charged me for was the oil change. I have taken my car there many times, and have absolute faith in the quality of their work and the honesty with which they will treat me. They understand the value of a satisfied customer, and know that gouging people will eventually close them down. If they say I need something, I trust them implicitly. That kind of trust in a mechanic is rare! I have been taken advantage of far too many times because I am a woman. And I know Convenience would never do that to me. Satisfied customer for life!!!
I did not have the same experience as the previous review. Not at all... They also have good reviews on Yelp, where I also left one. Our Ford F250 diesel broke down on 234 and all of the oil poured out of the entire truck. We stopped by a couple of shops and no one wanted to work on our apparently incredibly complicated 6.0 diesel engine. We even took the truck to another shop when there was only minimal oil leak and the estimate was outrageous. Long story short we took the truck to Haas and they diagnosed the problem immediately. They gave us an estimate and while it went up a couple hundred dollars after the work was completed we are incredibly happy. They worked on the truck immediately, were reasonably priced and did everything they said and when they said it. They also didn't blow off our more difficult diesel truck. They need to put diesel repair into their listing.
Upon a friend's recommendation, we took our 2006 Chrysler Town & Country to Advantage Certified Auto Group for diagnosis and repair of a significant engine power issue. So as to avoid any unnecessary repairs/costs, Advantage Certified - specifically President John Tisch, Bryan and Andrew in Auto Service - took a measured and pragmatic approach in diagnosing and resolving the root cause (bad catalytic converter, not the EGR valve as the vehicle computer codes indicated). The result - no unnecessary repairs/costs, we were provided a loaner vehicle, and the Town & Country is running absolutely fantastic. For a CPO BMW or superior customer service performance with even better results, we highly recommend speaking with John, Bryan, or Andrew at Advantage Certified Auto Group in Manassas Park. They will definitely take great care of you and your vehicle.
I recently moved from my home in Minnesota, and one of my biggest concerns was finding an automoblie tech that was not only very good, but one who was trustworthy! After a few different, and less satifactory visits to other Gainesville, Manassas, and Haymarket mechanics, I found COMPLETE AUTO CARE! Kevin was not only respectful, but patient with me and the issues I had with my 2007 Jeep Commander. He was not willing to throw my money at a "hunch," but took the time to get to the root of the problem. Kevin has earned my trust and respect, and he now has a loyal customer! I told my wife if she has an issue with one of our cars, he is the she can trust. That is something I do not say lightly! I will be returning to COMPLETE AUTO CARE again! Respectfully, Joe B Gainesville, VA
I was recently told by a Hyundai dealership that I needed to replace the clutch in my car and it would cost me over $1400.00 !! MAJOR PANIC set in. I found Complete Auto Care spoke with Kevin over the phone and he told me to bring it in & they would take a look at it and wouldn't charge me to have it diagnosed. I took the car in and long story short Kevin informed me there was nothing wrong with my clutch !! He is not out to make a quick dollar like most places. Kevin was very friendly, and took the time to explain to me if the clutch was going bad what it would, and wouldn't do. It is good to know there are some people out there that run a HONEST & FRIENDLY business. They have a customer for life in me !! I would suggest everyone go see Kevin & his staff ! GREAT JOB :)
I found Complete Auto Care by complete accident. I just looked up Auto Repair in Yellow Pages and it was the closest one to my house. At the time, I had very unusual problems with my whole exhaust system. The parts that were needed to fix it were not available. That didn't stop Kevin! He custom made my parts AND the repairs still cost $200-$300 less than what another very well known local auto shop quoted me. Everyone's reviews are right on the money. Kevin is extremely personable and, more importantly, immensely knowledgeable. He will not only fix the problem, but will show it to you and explain what is going on in easy to understand terms. Ultimately, he is willing to work with you no matter what your needs are and he gets the job done earning five out of five stars.
There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.
Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.
That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.
A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.
It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.
In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.
Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.
Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.
Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.
Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.
In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.
For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.
While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.
Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.
The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.
By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
