United Supermercado s first location was opened in 2000 in Plainview, Texas. The store features produce, meat, hot and cold deli, bakery and pharmacy departments. It specializes in international styles of food and specialty items, such as tortillas, bolillo rolls, tropical fruit frescas, unique produce from around the world, and a full-service carneceria that features fajitas, carnitas, barbacoa, carne guisada, posole and chorizo. United Supermercado is a part of United Supermarkets, which was founded by H.D. Snell in 1916 in Sayre, Okla. The company operates more than 25 stores in Oklahoma and employs over 1,200 people throughout the United States. Its stores operate bakery departments that offer a variety of products, including cakes, doughnuts, cookies, homemade meringue pies and freshly baked breads. Some of its stores also offer photo-image cake decoration services along with balloons and candles for special occasions. In addition, many of the company s stores offer sandwiches, coffees and fountain drinks. Some of United Supermarkets stores feature wider aisles for shopping and have battery-operated carts available for shoppers with physical disabilities.
