I have my mother at The Forum at Brookside and she has been there now since January, 2018. Care for her in my home just was not possible any longer with her loss of mobility and other health issues which existed. Though we always would love to have a one on one ultimate care scenario for a parent, it is just not possible. I would have to say that considering the realities of nursing home care and the burdens on those who work there, this is as good as it gets. I have to say that the personalities of those who work at the Forum are remarkable. They have some terrific people who interact with my mom and they joke and laugh with her. When the time comes to interact with hygiene and treatments of different sorts, it is always conducted with great care and concern. My mom requires bandaging and full care, and they provide it without question. They provide for her the ability to have many choices of social interaction with others, and the social staff is more than willing to get the residents involved. I have had the great experience of interacting with the overseer of the operations there and she has just been remarkable. I would not recklessly recommend anything on this site or anywhere else on the internet. I felt compelled to write this for it is a troubling experience to find proper care for an elderly parent, and any concerns if she was obtaining proper care and attention have been removed. I would obviously recommend this facility for it has been a comforting choice for me and my mom.....

Run as fast and far away from this place as you can. It's FILTHY, old furnishings, paint so thick on the doors they get stuck. Patients are screamed at by employees (I witnessed this) Reception area is closed early usually by 4:00 and you have to hold the door for 15 seconds to be let in. From what I witnessed there are little to no interaction with patients. Thankfully I got my loved one O-U-T before they killed him.
father in law was in this facility for respite care through Hoparus. I can not express the lack of professionalism, care and organization. He was there for 2 days and one night. During this time, his meds were not given on time, staff only checked on him once (if that's what you call stepping into the room and laying eyes on him). My sister stayed with him over night and when it was time for his meds, from his care package, there wasn't a nurse to be found! For an hour, my sister tried to find the nurse as my father in law was choking on secretions. The next day proved to be no better. We were still having to remind them of med schedules and they couldn't even complete a simple task of providing a pillow for comfort. Luckily, as I stated before, he was signed up with Hoparus. And they quickly made plans to have him transported to their facility.
When my mother couldn't stay home by herself anymore, it was one of the hardest decisions my family and I had to make. We looked at almost every place in town and Magnolia Springs East made the decision easy. My mother’s apartment is beautiful, spacious with a walk-in closet and an outside patio that overlooks a wooded area. I can’t say enough nice things about the Executive Director, the managers and all the staff because their professionalism, dedication and passion to care for the residents are their #1 priority. Actually, my mother has been happier and in better health now than she has in the past 10 years! She has made friends and enjoys all the entertainment & events. She loves making her own choices for activities, food, care, housekeeping and really everything that is offered, along with having the privacy of her apartment. She decides what she wants and the staff works around her schedule. I used to call my mother at her home, when she was alone and she was depressed, always sick and seemed like she had given up on life. Now when I call her, she is usually on her way out the door to go do something fun or meet friends at happy hour. I highly recommend looking at Magnolia Springs East or the other Magnolia Springs that is closer to town. I know they are both great from what I hear about the other one and I personally know this one is great! I wish I would have made this move a long time ago. My mother is happier, healthier and the staff at Magnolia Springs East gives her so much attention that she is getting spoiled! They have wonderful food; they take her places in a new Cadillac; housekeeping does her linens, vacuums, dusts, and deep cleans her apartment once a week. Every day they make her bed, take out her trash and wash the dishes in her sink. They have care staff around the clock and a really neat emergency alert system, so I can sleep better knowing she is being taken care of by people who truly love what they are doing and really care about my mother. I highly recommend Magnolia Springs. Don’t make a decision without visiting one or both Magnolia Springs.
My parents have recently moved into Magnolia Springs East. Our large family lives in Oldham County and Jefferson County, so the location is perfect. When we visit, everyone is always smiling. The employees are so helpful and nice and treat everyone with respect and the upmost consideration. The managers are all wonderful and have gone above and beyond to help find solutions for my father, which, in turn, has eased the stress on my family. I highly recommend Magnolia Springs East. It is definitely the best place in town and I have looked at many places. If you are considering any type of care for an elderly parent, you should look at Magnolia Springs. They also have one by Shelbyville Road, close to Oxmore mall. I have only heard good things about the other facility, as well.
The staff at Magnolia Springs truly cares abouit their residents! They show such interest, compasion and kindness to the residents and their families. The memory care area is wonderful and a Godsend for our family. There is transportation and entertainers that come in, there is a theater in the buildings and lots to do. I would highly recommend living there.
