I have shopped at Half Price Books since they opened here a few years ago, and yes, there are goodies to be found there....SOMETIMES. But beware, what may seem like a bargain price is not, if you pay attention to how much things are elsewhere. I used to think this place was great until I realized that their prices on used stuff can be more than what one could get the same thing for new. And their prices are pretty steep on things that are so scratched up they should be in a bargain bin. I sold a DVD there recently that I got at Walmart for $10, and when browsing the next time I was at the store I saw it on the shelf priced for about $2.50 more than Walmart sold it new for. I don't know if this pricing is out of sheer ignorance or if they just hope that people aren't smart shoppers, but since their selection seems pretty poor as of late, I'm not giving them my business much anymore.
I had an excellent time at the david friedlander antique store. The friendly faces behind the counter were happy to answer any questions I had and …
I find Book & Music Exchange much more attractive to shop at now that they have lowered their pricing on CD's. They have a rather large selection and while some of it is not anything I'm interested in, I have found a lot of great stuff there over time. Their pricing of 5 CD's for $20 or 11 for $40 makes them a much better deal than say, Half Price Books, or some other stores in the area, and one can find stuff there that can't be found anywhere else in this area. I can't really say a lot about the "atmosphere" of the store because there really isn't much of one, but for a relatively "no frills" shopping experience this is the place to go.
I can't speak to the previous review as I've never tried to sell them anything. They do have to resell whatever you bring in, so I don't see how anyone could expect to get too much for their merchandise. (Isn't that what Craigslist is for?) Anyway, I go here about once a month and hit the clearance CD rack. Usually I end up with 12-15 CDs for about $20. I'll also hit the magazine section before I take a long drive or flight somewhere. Grab a magazine for $.50 that's a couple months old vs. a new one that's on the rack for $5. Maybe you just need to go there to buy? Either way, this place works for me.
I contacted the owner via the web site and bought the book I wanted on his doorstep ... literally. I would love to have browsed a bit, but a nasty storm was supposed to be a-comin' through, thus the rush buying. I will return another time. The book is as described (signed and in fine/like new condition). He also very kindly honored an online coupon, which is very much appreciated. Thank you, Mr Johmann.

The nicest, friendliest, and most courteous assistance of any book store in louisville, and I have been to or talked to them all!!! Huge selection of books and the best part is if they don't have it they will help you find it! #keep it local!
Mom's Music ROCKS! Instruments, Lessons, Repairs, and Rentals are available at Mom's. Cool shop, would definitely recommend musicians of any age and ability to check it out. The staff is great and very helpful. The teachers are great.
Excellent service--Called the store in the morning and the store owner was able to stop by in the afternoon and make a offer on my father's library. We agreed on a price and he was able to remove the books the same day.
The Book Attic was wonderful for me. Had the books I was looking for and more. The woman there was super helpful, patient and friendly. I will be going back frequently. Thanks!
Be sure to look through the book to make all the pages are there. The dictionary I bought was missing half the words beginning with the letter A.
