The Third Judicial District Court is a state court of general jurisdiction located in Las Cruces, N.M. It has jurisdiction over a variety of criminal, probate and general civil cases, such as auto accidents, contract disputes, real property disputes and the violation of civil rights. The court also handles cases related to domestic relations that include divorce, domestic violence, and child support and custody. In addition, the Third Judicial District Court undertakes cases regarding children's abuse, the neglect of children, juvenile delinquency and adoptions. It maintains jury information, human resource, child support and domestic violence departments. The court additionally supports the Court Appointed Special Advocate program, which provides community volunteers to advocate for the interests of children who come into the court system primarily as a result of abuse or neglect.
