YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

Well, isn't this a surprise? N...

Well, isn't this a surprise? Not that having a good sushi bar in a mini mall is surprising in L.A. The surprise is that it took me so long to try it out - and that it was actually good. I'll have to hit it up a few more times to give it a really well rounded review, but here's what I'll say: the fish is very fresh, and they have a huge assortment of rolls, and the usual sashimi, et al. At one of my fave sushi joints, I always ask for a rainbow roll, but request that they just use salmon. Miyako actually has this roll on the menu. And when you ask for some edamame, they come to your table with a fresh, steaming hot *enormous* pile of said dish, nicely salted. That is *so* much better than the usual cold and tasteless edamame that I frequently run into elsewhere. The service was a bit shaky, only because the waitress had started her new career just five minutes before I walked in the door. She actually didn't know what edamame was - we both had the manager come over, who looked terribly embarrassed, but quickly resolved the situation. The dishes arrived out of order, but they were all so good that I didn't care. It's walking distance from home, so ... I'm very happy.

Should have saved my hard earned money!

So I read the reviews and it kinda left me in the middle because a few were decent and the others not so much. However, I decided I would try this place out since I was in the mood for sushi. So I was on my morning walk and I thought about going to the sushi place I read about. I guess it wasn't open at that time but I saw an Asian man standing in the window, so I did the movements that showed I wanted to know what time they opened and he gave me this "Go away" look and moved out of my site. I still came back a little later. I asked to sit at the sushi bar he said no but I was the only customer there. He kinda tossed the menu on the table then served me some "not bad" messy sushi rolls with "could have been fresher" fish. He check on me without having to ask him to come over. I got rolls and water but my bill comes to 30 dollars, not including tip. I was pretty sure I wouldn't be coming back. Ever but maybe it was a bad day. So you can try it if you want so it's up to you. Good luck. Sorry this was so long I'm a excited this is my first review.

My favorite destination for sushi

No cut rolls here. To be honest, I'm not even sure what the menu looks like. I always get omakase (chef's choice), and there are only two choices: American or Japanese. The Japanese version is a little bit more out there (ie. sea urchin, abalone, etc). Both are good, and I mix it up. The last dish they usually bring you is the blue crab handroll. Hard for me to say what my favorites are, but the handroll would rank up there. Sometimes, I'll get an extra. Rice is a little fluffier and warm. Some may find it strange but I like it. Omakase generally runs $50 - $70 per person, without drinks. You can park on the street if you're lucky, otherwise there is a parking structure underneath the building (validated). Used to be that you needed reservations, but it didn't seem too bad the last couple of times I visited.

This is probably one of the best sushi places in LA. This isn't your California roll sushi places, which is a really nice change of pace. If you can, definitely try the Omakase (Japanese or regular). It'll definitely be more $$, but the fish selection is so good. I'll just say this, I haven't had such good fresh tasting sushi in a while. Of course I haven't tried some of the higher end and more $$$ places around town, but to those who are thinking about spending a bit more on on much better sushi without breaking the bank, I'd recommend this place. Small problem with this location, which I guess is true for most places near the west side... is parking. I don't remember seeing a parking lot for this place, but there's plenty of street parking in the adjacent streets or the nearby neighborhood.

Best Sushi Ever

I hate to give this secret away - but this is my favorite restaurant, and I want to share the love. It's traditional Japanese sushi and sashimi (there's no menu and no california rolls) and the food is really really good. It's primarily just sushi, and wonderful seafood salads, but also great wine and Italian desserts - even an eggplant parm! The owner is a master sushi chef and each dish he makes is a work of art & really delicious! I've had a lot of sushi, and after going to Shibucho - I can't go anywhere else.

The sushi is cheap as all hell...

The sushi is cheap as all hell and good enough, not the best stuff ever, but pretty solid, either way. The atmosphere isn't anything special, but it's a cheap sushi joint so I don't know what you expect. You might have to wait for a table and it can get cramped (lots of people are aware of their daily 50% off "special"), but if you're in the mood and have a big enough appetite, the wait is worth it. I'd recommend going for a weekend lunch if you're bringing a larger group.

For Sushi this is the Place!

I have been eating here for some years, it is simple and to the point. It is what you want! And if you do not see what you want on the menu just ask. I like it because the basic's (Sushi) that you want are right in front of you, circling befor your eyes on a conveyor belt of goodness. And if you want something special all you have to do is ask. It is not like those Restaurant were you have to order a meal then order your Sushi "you get what you want when you want it.

After the handoff

Since the new owner arrived are my observations and opinions - 1) the beef teriyaki has gotten worse. The quality of meat is for sure worse than before. More fatty and less lean like it used to be. 2) they do not include crab into the salads. you have to ask for it as a replacment and then pay extra. Overall the food is close to the orginal but i miss tha grouchy japanese lady that used to take my order. she made the best california rolls and her fast taste better.

The New Oiwake

Don't let that sad post from 2008 set your mind about Oiwake. The New Oiwake is now under new ownership, new management, some new crew... but same Japanese Tavern environment. Great place to run into friends from the past and maybe even meet some new ones. The food is MUCH BETTER, full bar, large TV's and Karaoke with more songs. Been there 3 times, since the new ownership and love the Japanese All You Can Eat Buffet.

Excellent Sushi Bar !!!

This is a nice place to enjoy eating sushi... Contemporary style with warm atmosphere, entertainment with big TV screen and surprise with big fish on the wall !!! I really like Kazoku's Special Roll, Seared Pepper Tuna, and King Crab Sushi... This place also has Black Cod, Chilean Sea Bass, Bake Mussel, and Half Shell Oyster. Taste's so good and service's so great!!! I will go back for sure!!!
