I found U Salon by searching the Internet when I moved to this area. It is supposed to be a more affordable version of the upscale Umberto Salon in Beverly Hills. I get that "affordable" in L.A. is definitely a switch from what that meant in the SF Valley where I used to live! My only gripe is that if you get a 2-process color job, they charge you double! Ouch! So a cut & style is around $40-60 depending on how long or short your hair is. And 1-color is $50-60 depending on length also. So for my long hair, it ends up being $60 for the cut & style, + $120 for 2 colors = $180. For the same, I used to pay $80 less in the Valley. But then, I was living in the Valley, and that's no bargain! :D BUT the salon is very spacious & airy and relaxed, the staff is friendly, and I am stuck on Helen like glue! She used to do hair in London at a high-end salon that catered to the Royals and local celebrities. I got her when I asked for a long-hair specialist, and sure enough, my hair looked even LONGER after she colored it, cut it, and styled it! And I look even better than ever!!!! So, the little extra is totally worth it, and it is WAY less than the $300 and up you could end up paying in Beverly Hills. I also love the nail salon - I did not think I could get a pedicure for $14 in a salon w/Umberto's name on it. And they do a very good job. I especially love Quincy's pink & white acrylics - I could stare at them forever! & the girls are very nice. I never get the feeling anyone is talking snarky about me behind my back in another language :). For another $15, which is no more than at any other carwash nearby, you can have your car washed while you get all dolled up. Great find!
My cat got very sick all of a sudden and I took her to Echo Park Animal Hospital. Dr. Filipescu was so generous and kind and caring. He kept her for two days, overnight, free of charge, to keep her under his observation because she was very sick and deteriorating rapidly. He gave her antibiotic shots and pain shots and fed her wet food, vitamins, and water from a syringe every four hours to make sure she got nutrients and hydration when she couldn't eat or drink water. I ultimately had to put her to sleep because she kept getting worse and wasn't responding to antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment. Dr. Filipescu let me stay with her as long as I wanted during the euthanasia and was very sweet to me after it was over and I was upset. He even called me a few days later when test results came in to give me more information about what made my cat sick even though she had already passed away. He is knowledgeable and knows what he is doing. I took my cat to another vet in between visits to Echo Park Animal Hospital and the other vet basically gave me the same information I got from Dr. F and the same recommendations on how to proceed with her symptoms. I had no problems communicating with Dr. F, he answered all my questions -- and believe me I had tons of them. Overall, he obviously cares very much about the animals and about their owners too. Plus, all the treatment he gave my cat over the course of three days amounted to $264. He didn't even charge me for the euthenasia. Anybody who thinks he is doing this for the money is just wrong.
Adrimar, is the one stop place for your hair needs! If you are looking for the perfect cut, style, color, or even extensions they have it all here! I have been going to Adriana for 8 years for my hair and I must say she is the best in LA! She has taken my hair through all of my walks of life, as it changes all the time our hair does and a good stylist knows what to do. And I must say i can thank Adriana for all she has done for me on that department as it has burst my confidence. I have had hair extensions now for a year because I had suffered a blood disorder with is known as Anemic, it had caused my hair to go from being extremly bouncy and long and pefect to very thin and not so perfect so with the extensions it helps me in the areas that I lack now for that luster hair! I hope one day that i can build up my body to not have to suffer from this disorder and hopefully get my hair back, but for now the extensions have been great! I love them as noone can tell I have them unless I tell them, Sometimes people are like I love your hair, I say really, well thank my stylist cause their hair extensions they say no way, those are really done good, i must say she is awesome! So look no further then Adrimar one stop place for all you hair needs! Its a family run business, with her sister at her side and her best friend which are all stylsits you can not go wrong!
I am mixed with black and white and it is extreamly hard to find a salon that can handel my hair. I die my hair often and I could never find a place that could do my hair the way I wanted. You know how you go to a place to get your hair done and your not satified so you leave with a fake smile. Well that was me A LOT. I have been to Beverly Hills, Beverly Center, Westwood, Long Beach and all over Los Angeles not one place I went to did my hair right until I went to Le Von's. My hair is Naturally blace and I get it died Blonde or light brown with highlights. One place in Westwood I brough a picture of Nicole Richie and asked that they do my hair EXACTLY like hers. They said ok 1/2 way thorugh it didnt look right so I asked her what she was doing she said she is doing it Like her hair but not exaclty. I was ANGRY. At the Beverly Center they asked that I sign a form just incase my hair fell out. OMG So when I went to Le Von's I asked the man if they have color specialist, I showed them a sample. They did it perfectly. As long as they exist I will go to Le Von's, and Le Von's only. I would recomend this place to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Because who ever is doing their hair has nothing on the guy who did my hair. Like I said I LOVE LOVE LOVE Le Von's and I will be back! Keep up the good work
I've been going to Pamela for about 8 months now. Before her I'd gone to tons of other spas and facial places, half of which told me that they didn't know what to do with my skin because it was that bad!! Pamela has changed my life. Not only do I have flawless skin that is soft and beautiful, but the experience of her care is like none else. If you visit Pamela -make sure you call weeks or months in advance she is BOOKED up!- you can expect to have an hour and a half, just you are her and she spends the entire time in the room with you. If there is a mask, she does -what I think may be Reflexology- massaging. She also uses products that you really feel that they work, they're different from anything I've experienced. Pamela makes her own products, she created a vast range of skin care cleansers that work great. I have used tons of commercial and other products with only a week or 2 of result. I saw results in 1 facial and continued to be perfected by the cleansers she recommended me and her facials. She knows skin, she is a skin Goddess. So, if you're looking for a place to freshen up, or to fix a disaster, Pamela's Exclusive Skin Spa (http://www.pamelasexclusiveskin.com) is for you!
Something that comes to mind when writing reviews is thinking about how we treat others in the world and in the case of this review how we treat our pets also. The Dr.s and the staff at the front desk plus the technicians at LFSAH have all been kind, caring , considerate and extremely skilled. Mind you the Gals at the front desk are also professionals some with degrees in science, some parents etc...They have all been wonderful and helpful, put yourself in their place, some days are crazy some days were grouchy...try asking them how their day is going or what their pets names are , instead of the selfish entitled attitudes people carry now a days !!! My cat is 24 years old and has been a patient there for 12 years. She is currently under the care of both the young Dr. C and Dr. H . Ive taken good care of my cat, they see this and without question have provided me with thee best service. Also how can we talk and complain about money when were dealing with another's quality of life ? This is not about bargain shopping. They have also given us excellent references for specialists. Once again everyone at LFSMH is amazing and if you have problems refer to the first sentence in my review again !!!
I have been looking for a new place since I moved to Los Angeles couple of months ago, and I think I found it. To be honest I was a bit nervous to try out this shop despite the good reviews for I am still new to this neighborhood, but as soon as I got there everything felt perfect. Cindy was my stylist and she was THE stylist I have been looking for. She asked many questions to know how I wanted my hair cut and carefully examined my hair before start cutting unlike many of the previous stylists I visited. She worked on my hair like a true professional and the shampoo + conditioner was excellent as well. The results made me speechless and overjoyed - I honestly cannot describe the experience with mere words alone! The price was very nice at about $30, which gets even better with the 20% off coupon I found on their website. I wouldn't have known that there was a first timer coupon if I didn't read my fellow yelpers' reviews. Thank you x3 The whole experience took about 30-40 minutes, which is very reasonable for such a popular place. If you want some compliments on your hair, this is the place to go!
Elena has been cutting and styling my hair since the Spring of 2004. She is an amazing hairstylist and a wonderful person. She goes above and beyond what a typical hairstylist would do and makes you feel so comfortable when you're sitting in her chair. She's a true artist and cares about each and every one of her clients. It's her goal to give each client the best hairstyle they desire every time they visit. Between my haircut and styling appointments, I visit Elena often for her famous shampoo and styling. When life or LA is stressing me out, I don't get a massage. I get a shampoo and style from Elena. Her shampoo/scalp massage is out of this world! It takes all your worries away and makes you feel like a new person! Elena is so great at what she does, she's the only person that works on my hair. Honestly, words can't describe how magnificent she is. If you're looking for a hip style, a modern style or something classic, visit Elena. It'll be the best hairstyle you've ever had! And you'll go back time and time again because she's simply that awesome and caring. Elena, you're the best!!!
I've been going to Vivian for over 15 years. She always does a great cut on my hair. I wear a very , very, very short hair cut - I guess you would call it somewhat of a Barber cut - but not that short on the top. She does layers that blend into each other fantastically and this is with her fingers cut with a scissor - not with a machine. I have always received a great haircut - with different variations on the top. Not once have I been unhappy. She's a very pleasant person and I just hope she continues cutting hair for many more years. I'm quite sure all her customers - be them woman or men are happy with her haircuts. She only does cuts - for the most part. That's her specialty. I live quite a ways away - but do not mind putting in the miles. I know I'll always be satisfied. She shares space with a nail salon - half and half. Her prices are excessively reasonable, reasonable. KUDOS KUDOS KUDOS to you Vivian. It's a simple salon with great haircuts. Do not let looks deceive you. HAPPY HAIR CUTS.
Nicole at Henri Salon rocks! She is an exceptional (and fun) hair stylist. Her own hair looks good too. I'm a 29 year old guy in LA and about a year ago I was looking to find a regular hair stylist who makes it easy and enjoyable for me to keep well groomed and looking my best. I stopped by Henri Salon, liked the light/nice space, got a haircut from Nicole, and have been going back ever since. Nicole is professional, has a great personality, and loves what she does. She tells me about new stuff all the time. Nicole listens to detailed requests and handles them really well when I have them but also knows my current look, and brings suggestions, so I can just space out and let her do her thing. When I think I'm done, Nicole fusses over the little things. Eyebrows for example. I generally don't think or ask about those items, but much appreciated! Must also mention scheduling as Nicole is kind when dealing with my hectic schedule. Thanks Nicole! Love all the compliments I get
Choosing the right vet for your pet can be tough. After all, your furry friend can't tell you how he or she feels about the doctor. Even though you're not the one treated by the vet, whoever your animal sees is obviously your decision. Since many veterinary diseases and injuries can turn into emergencies very quickly, it's important to have a go-to vet. This way, you can ensure you'll know whom to see when your animal needs care.
Speak to your friends and family about vets who've treated their pets. You can even talk to your groomer or an animal shelter worker for referrals. When you visit the clinics you've been referred to, check that the facility is clean, animals are separated and the staff is calm and courteous. Not all clinics are American Animal Hospital Association accredited. This accreditation isn't a legal necessity, though a clinic that's AAHA-accredited is guaranteed to offer high-quality medical care. To receive accreditation, the clinic has to meet the AAHA's standards in the areas of facility, equipment and quality care.
If you're looking for a specialist, you want to make sure he or she is board-certified to practice in that specific area of animal medicine. You'll want to make sure your vet is also convenient to visit, so there are factors to take into account.
The type of animal you own should play a part in which vet you choose as well. While your options are vast if you have a dog or cat, you may have to visit an avian clinic for your bird or an exotics clinic for your snake.
Just as there are many types of doctors, there are many types of vets. Some focus on livestock or house pets, while others may specialize in dentistry or surgery. They may work in a veterinary clinic or zoo, working specifically with the animals housed there, or travel to farms to work with livestock. Since horse racing and other equestrian activities are so popular, some vets are trained to work just with horses.
Diseases, like malaria and yellow fever are also transmitted through animals. Some vets have insight to diseases that affect both humans and animals. Vets have contributed to the treatment and cure of many diseases that plagued both humans and their furry friends.
Government agencies employ veterinarians as well. When an animal comes from a foreign land, these vets quarantine them and check for any diseases that may be present in an effort to control new diseases that can be brought into the country. Other Specific types of vets include:
A vet assistant works alongside the veterinarian and helps out around the clinic. In some cases, they may assist vets in surgery or restrain struggling animals during tests or lab work. The everyday duties of a veterinary assistant include; monitoring and caring for animals after surgery, keeping medical records, cleaning animals' teeth, feeding and bathing them, cleaning cages, sterilizing surgical equipment, giving animals medication, collecting samples for testing and performing laboratory tests, and offering grief counseling to pet owners.
It's a good idea to bring your pet to the vet regularly. This way, he or she becomes familiar and comfortable with the care providers, and you can stay on top of your pet's preventative care. If the animal is small enough, bring it to the office in a carrier. Just as you visit the doctor for a yearly check up, you should bring in your pet for regular check ups as well. During a routine veterinary visit, the vet will probably begin by asking you if there have been any changes in your pet's behavior or habits.
The vet will then take your pet's vitals, like weight, temperature, pulse and respiration rate, and perform a physical examination of the pet. During a physical exam, the vet checks the abdomen for swollen organs, and the legs, feet and joints for any potential problems. Depending on the age, breed or condition of your pet, your veterinarian may also check the eyes, ears and mouth.
When your vet conducts a full body examination, he or she will check out your pet's coat and skin, noting any hair loss, itchy spots or lumps. Keep note of your animal's shedding habits so you can let the vet know if anything seems abnormal. The vet will check for parasites, fleas, ticks, mites and heartworms as well.
Vaccinations are also important to your pet, especially if you have a cat or a dog, and your vet will suggest that you make sure they're current. Keeping up to date with vaccinations can prevent your furry friend from getting distemper, rabies, hepatitis and lyme disease. Some vaccinations last longer than others, so speak to your doctor about staying caught up with your animal's shots.
Just like your own health insurance, you want to make sure your animal is covered before he or she needs veterinary services. Some common animal surgeries can cost thousands of dollars, and you don't want to end up having to foot a surprise bill that costs more than your paycheck.
There's no set price for pet health insurance. Costs can depend on factors such as where you live, the age and breed of your pet, and how much coverage you want. Before you take out a pet insurance policy, you'll want to meet with your vet to go over what he or she thinks your animal should be covered for. Many vets believe that you should make sure cancer, chronic disease, hereditary and congenital disease, and common breed-related medical conditions are all addressed in your policy.
Some pet owners can't afford insurance for their pet, so there are other options to make paying for surprise pet visits as easy as possible. Some pet stores have wellness plans - which tend to be much cheaper than an insurance policy - that offer shots, check ups, screenings and discounts on various procedures your pet may need. A lot of veterinary offices offer payment plans for pricey procedures as well, as long as you have decent credit history. For a last-ditch option, there are even privately funded organizations that offer pet owners financial aid for their pet's treatments.
