Chemotherapy
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that appears on the skin when skin growth accelerates due to faulty signals from the immune system. The disease can appear on any part of the body. Although there is no known cause of psoriasis, it is believed that the immune system and genetics play a large role in its development. According to the National Institutes of Health, approximately 2% of the population has been diagnosed with psoriasis; it most commonly appears between the ages of 15 and 25. The prevalence of psoriasis in African Americans is 1.3%, compared to 2.5% of Caucasians. Four types of treatments are generally used to treat psoriasis: topical corticosteroids and Vitamin D analogs, phototherapy and oral immune suppressive agents. The Institute specializes in phototherapy for psoriasis, using narrow band phototherapy, or less often psoralen photo chemotherapy.

Botulinum toxin is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. Laser Resurfacing
Nonablative laser and light treatments (other equivalent terms include subsurface resurfacing, photo rejuvenation, and laser toning) have been used for the aesthetic improvement of photoaged skin, acne and scarring. These treatments provide an alternative to traditional full-face laser resurfacing, an ablative modality in which carbon dioxide and/or erbium: YAG lasers are used to remove the entire epidermis and portions of the dermis. It is effective in all skin types.

Acne Treatment
Eczema
Atopic dermatitis or eczema is characterized by rashes that are due to a hypersensitivity reaction in the skin or other irritants such as soaps, temperature changes, detergents, and creams. The hypersensitive reaction causes the skin to become inflamed which leads to itching and scaling. Signs and symptoms of eczema include intense itching, skin redness, blisters, dryness, and skin pigmentation changes. Eczema usually occurs early in life, and can become a long-term condition if not treated properly. Approximately 1-2% of adults have eczema. Treatments include antihistamines, topical emollients, topical corticosteroid products, calcineurin inhibitors and phototherapy.
Lesions
Age Spots or Solar Lentigo are a result of overexposure to ultraviolet light. They are light brown patches that occur on sun-exposed or visible light-exposed areas of skin such as the face, arms, chest and back. Such lesions are induced by natural or artificial ultraviolet light (visible or blue light) sources. These skin changes are observed in all skin types.
Chemical Peels
It can be associated with pregnancy, birth control pills, or excessive sun exposure. Melasma is primarily a cosmetic condition and is not associated with an internal disease. There are multiple safe and effective treatments available, including chemical peels and lasers.

The excimer laser, or topical targeted phototherapy, is recommended for adult and pediatric patients experiencing mild, moderate, or severe psoriasis with less than 10 percent BSA involvement. Patients with photosensitivity disorders should consult with Dr. Grimes in her Los Angeles to determine their candidacy for this treatment.
