I always come here when I get bored of just staying in at home. Great music and love the atmosphere.. Great way to get a little stress out of your life form a hard work week.. drinks are flowing and people here are awesome. Good spot to go with friends and let loose!

Hip and Trendy and located right across the street from my absolute favorite little club Hotel Cafe, the Velvet Margarita makes you feel sexy.
The vibe is like the inside of a retro van by designer from H&M home decor. Red and Black yet sexy.
Margaritas...hey they are pretty good. This is a great place to meet your friends and all squeeze into one of the giant booths.
I have never actually eaten here so I guess it has a great name.
When I get into Hollywood, this is my favorite place to start the night and end it!
I wanted to write a quick note because I took a big group here a couple of nights ago. I should have made a reservation but the manager took care of us. Our server was great and we were not the easiest group. (We came from a club and had been partying.) But by the time the food came, everyone was totally happy.
This place is totally different from any other place I've ever been. The atmosphere is great, the people are cool. They have a great selection of tequila that I'm slowly working my way through.
Can't wait to go back and thanks for taking care of my rowdy friends. Everyone had a blast!
Drove in from Vegas with friends Saturday night & went straight to my favorite LA place … I go there for the $5 Margaritas & the fish tacos. NOBODY DOES IT BETTER! Then I wound up getting hammered on the patio. My girlfriend ordered me a $25 shot of Don Julio – and it might be the best tequila ever. Although the patio’s a little crowded on the weekends, the vibe is well worth it.
I wrote this review because I am a loyal customer & was offended by a previous review titled “Never Again”. This place is the greatest and if you have issues, you’re either a hater or you work for another restaurant.

I took my friend there for her birthday. she wasnt happy, i wasnt happy, her guest werent happy. It has a great atmosphere which sets you up for a big dissapointment. The prices are high and the food is no good. I was looking forward to some great margaritas since the drink is sin their name......worst part of the night! The margaritas were small, expensive, watered down, had lots of ice, and did not taste as good as the two dollar margaritas i could get at one of my favorite spots. Big mistake taking my friend there, only did because she loves margaritas -_-
From my favorite Beer-Battered Ahi Tacos, to the Fresh-Squeezed Pomegranate Margaritas... Big Daddy & Company have clearly redefined "The Whole Enchilada". As they say... we come for the cuisine and always stay for the scene. Viva La Velvet Margarita!
I love this place. I remember a few years ago when the neighborhood was not so cool. Now there are all kinds of new places to hang out and eat! But this place is my favorite.
Me and my girlfriends always start the evening and end it at ""La Velvet."" The vibe is very Hollywood... so squares should probably just go to El Torito or something... But if you really want to have some great margaritas and have a nice, sit down meal with great Mexican food before a club or a show, this is a great place to do it.
Tips. Use the valet. As a woman, I don't always like to park far away. So I keep it safe. Plus, after you eat or have some drinks you can check out the other cool places in the neighboorhood. But we always end up back here anyway. Also, try all the margaritas. We order a few different ones and pass them around... Huge selection! There's a bartender named Tom or Thomas who's very cute and very nice. English too! We try to go when he's working... For dinner, I always order the albondigas soup. Better than my grandma's... (Sorry gramma!) I also love their mole and the chicken enchiladas. Just like home... but don't have to shop or do dishes.
Friends take me to their favorite places and I always end up bringing them here. And it's just such a great place to hang out, it usually becomes their favorite too.
Me and afew of my friends started the night out withdinner at the Velvet Margarita and it was a very good experience! I love Mexican food and the food there was great!

If the Korova Milk Bar were Mexican, it would be this place. Everytime I go in I notice some new crazy element of the decor that I hadn't previously. I happened upon this place years ago at the insistance of a friend and I have been going back frequently ever since. I've had 3 favorite places to get good Mexican food in LA over the past 20 years and this is one of them.
Everytime I'm in I try something new. Generally, I'm a creature of habit and stick with a favorite dish, but because the staff kinda knows me now and we have a mutual comfort level thing going, it's understood that I will be trying their newest creations because I initially used to order the same thing EVERY time. It's also a given at this point, that I will probably love it...unless it's mole. I'm one of the one's that doesn't ""get"" mole. Chocolate and meat were never meant to meet. Most recently, though, I tried the Pineapple Salsa Chicken: Total Awesomeness!
Velvet is always subject to a slightly different vibe depending on the day of the week and time of day, but no matter when I've been in it's always been cool. At times the main bar is full of happy-looking patrons, at times the whole joint is abuzz, at times the place looks kinda dead but then you stumble onto a mob partying down on the back patio, dancing the night away to the Velvet's muy especial brand of eclectic musica. Recently, I've been stopping in for lunch. Way cool spot for lunch...and the parking in a relative breeze.
If the lots in the area are filled up already or cost too much, and the valet expense would be the straw that broke date night's back, and walking from east of Vine is too much for you, then you're probably a native of LA and you may want to cab it on any given day after 7pm. Cahuenga is quite popular with the kids.
Awesome food. Comfy kinda ""hide out"" vibe. Lots of Hollywood eye candy. Good music. Meximuertovelvis interior. Stiff drinks. Attentive and warm service. And good prices.
I'm from New York originally...I park and walk from east of Vine.

First off this place is so Hollywood wannabe. Attitude up the yang. Every employee acted as if their mother told them they had to be there. Food was nothing special except for the churros for dessert and the chips. Margs were only good if you upgraded to the - $12 ones. Yes folks $12 bucks which I would gladly pay for if they didn't have all this attitude. Loteria up the street is SO MUCH better food and attitude wise.
