I've been updating some rooms in my house and was in the market for some speakers to be installed in my living room. I settled on Speaker Guy, largely due to the positive reviews. They seemed reasonably knowledgeable and their prices were comparable to other places (i.e. not the lowest and not the highest).
The two Speaker Guy workers arrived when they said they would and the work was done in about the time they said (a little longer, maybe a hour or so).
When the two gentlemen completed their work, they quickly packed up and were all set to leave. They seemed quite happy to leave without demonstrating the new speakers to me. At the time, this didn't raise any concerns with me. In retrospect, that should have been a red flag.
In any event, I stopped them from exiting so I could test things. I turned on the speakers. Sure enough, no sound was coming from the Left speaker. One of the Speaker Guys looked a little perplexed. He instructed me to increase the volume. He remarked that since the Left speaker was a greater distance from the amp, it may need a little more power to come on. I know next to nothing about electronics/speakers, that's why I hired Speaker Guy. I turned the volume up and the speaker kicked in. The Speaker Guy left with that.
I figured I wouldn't need to increase the volume on the Left speaker all the time, but it seemed to need it. Fast forward a little bit and now the Left speaker doesn't work. It is likely blown out (the Right speaker works just fine).
I called Speaker Guy and informed them of the problem, the history and that it seems like a warranty issue. I was told they would need to do a service call to determine the issue. Oddly enough, the gentlemen on the phone couldn't schedule the appointment then. He informed me that he would have to call me back in 10mins to schedule. I received no phone call back.
I called back multiple times on different days and have left messages. But no one calls back. The suspicious side of me thinks they're avoiding the issue.
In any event, I give Speaker Guy 1 star for poor workmanship and poor customer service.
There are plenty of speaker installers out there, choose one of those. Avoid Speaker Guy.
I read the reviews, thought they can't be that good, but they were even better!
I started out at Best Buys considering 2 small Def. Tech Tower speakers and wound up with 2 - 6 ft. Boston Acoustic Tower Speakers and a 7.1 surround system along with kitchen and outdoor speakers that sound fantastic!
Speaker Guy was very knowledgeable and told me the pros & cons of all components, without trying to sell me anything I didn't want. The installers were superb and fixed my wireless system and bundled some other cables in the process. They even came back to help me reprogram and operate my remote the next week!
I have to agree with all the other reviewer's comments: Speaker Guy is the best, don't bother going anywhere else!
My husband and I were remodeling our house and really wanted to play music all around, as we host a lot of parties. We originally went to bestbuy but after a long wait and unfriendly service we did some research on the internet finding Speaker Guy in West Hollywood. My husband called Speaker Guy and instead of us coming to them, Speaker Guy installer came to us. He did a thorough walk through, and answered all our questions. We are very new to this but speaker guy took his time explaining all our options and helped us choose the most efficient and cost effective option for our house. We only wanted music originally, but now we have a universal remote control that we can use from anywhere in our house to control our music, our lighting, and our thermostat, as part of a beginner home automation package they put together for us. When we save a little more money I will be calling them back to install automatic shades in my house. Overall, this was a great experience and we learned so many things that we didn't know were possible.
We called speaker guy for lighting control options and to build a home theater for our new home in Calabasas. We got exactly what we expected: professional and knowledgeable. Our project was completed on time and I can't tell you how much my husband and I love our new system.
I hired speaker guy to work with me on clients project. I explained to them the style my customer was looking for (she wanted everything out of sight). Speaker Guy put together a system with in-wall speakers that could not be seen and we could paint over. They also put automated TV lifts inside furniture pieces that I used as part of my design. Nothing was visible, exactly how my client wanted it. The project was a great success and we stayed within our budget. Great work!
I just bought a small home, and damn, I already spent that much on a house, I figured why not spend a little more to make my pad real nice. So, I started checking out home theater options.
Anyway, I looked around for a little bit and had 2 or 3 places come out to look at my home, but wow, it was definitely out of my price range. I was pretty resigned to downgrading my expectations/wants when it came to home theater, but I kind of lucked into Speaker Guy by randomly googling/yelping/yellowpaging home automation. I thought I'd call one last time.
Well, the owner came out and took a look at my place, and then gave me an estimate the very next day. They then started work the very same week and finished up in a matter of hours. They set up lighting control, climate control, multi zone audio all for around $3000!!
Save yourself some time and don't bother looking around elsewhere. I'll tell you that the 2 other quotes I got from other companies were 50-100% more . . . and the speakers and equipment they were trying to push on me were garbage, according to cnet.
Anyway, now I can play music throughout the house, dim my lights, and change temperature in my home all from a really cool looking LCD universal remote control. I can even use my Iphone to do this! They even set up different moods so when I wake up my morning music will play. or when I'm having a party there is a party mode button that plays my party music and dims the lights in some areas while keeping them in others.
It almost makes me feel like my house belongs on mtv cribs.
I saw speaker guy when I was driving on melrose a few month ago and decided to give them a shot for my Crestron home automation project. They came out to my jobsite at no charge and were able to give me best price (I had 3 other estimates to compare with from other major custom installation companies). Overall I saved around $12,000 on product, labor, and programming charges. I am so happy with my system, Speaker Guy custom designed each touchpanel to fit my lifestyle, I have been recommending them to all my friends.
I hired Speakerguy to handle my home automation for the new house I was building. Got 3 other bids, speaker guy was not only the lowest but also most knowledgeable and detail oriented. Speakerguy handled everything from prewiring, to building my home theater room, to programming and setting up crestron home automation throughout my house. I will be using them again in about 3 months on another new construction.
Called Speaker Guy for my whole house music system. Price was great, service even better! Their installer came on time and I could tell he was very experienced. He recommended an affordable whole house system and did not try to oversell me. He had great acoustical knowledge and my system sounds great. I bought 6 Samsung LED TV's from speakerguy as well, all for about 20% less than best buy (huge savings). I was very happy that one installer who was very experienced guided me through the entire project from the beginning to the end, and did all the work himself. He explained that speaker guy only works with a few very experienced installers and does not hire anyone with less than 7 years experience. I recommended Speaker Guy to all my friends.
