What a treat!!!

If you want authentic Italian food at reasonable prices and world class service, this is the place to go! Be sure to ask for Yuri and sit in his section. He has excellent knowledge of the menu and wine pairings. A truly wonderful dining experience!

This place was very charming. The service was great and we felt very cozy. We found this place by accident when another Italian restaurants website showed they were opened on Sunday for lunch but were not. We are so glad because I will never forget the lasagna. It was different than any other and it just melted in my mouth. It is only served on Sundays so keep that in mind. You won't be disappointed.

Uneven product for the price in the present economy

Service is fine; a bit overplayed with the authentic ? Italian waiters, some of whom lack sophistication, struggle in communicating the specials, and aren't attentive to the little service items; Food presentation is excellent, and appetizers are tasty; main course pastas are solid, some are very good; Meat dishes as entrees are well presented but lack finish - careful prep and seasoning for flavour enhancement are missed on some items; instead extra grilling is substituted;

Major issue - for the price, Pizzacoto down the street does its fish and meat entrees and its grilled salads equally or better at 15-20% lower entree price;
Same problem with wine list; for a comfortable but not fashionable location in a little store front on Barrington, Sor Tino should have better pricing on wine list to engage its customers in a tough economic environment -even Brentwood diners are sensitive to value proposition;

Have only tried restaurant twice - with so many good Italian choices on the west side, tough to commit to go back, although maitre'd, probably an owner, is charming and creates very convivial atmosphere that makes the dining experience pleasant

Very charming and great food

Our neighbors suggested we try Sor Tino and said it was one of their favorite restaurants. I have to say that they were so friendly and warm. They speak Italian, which was a good sign and I believe it is family-run. Our server and another server joked and chatted with us as if they had known us for a while. It was really nice. It was a very charming and cozy atmosphere. My boyfriend got a seafood ravioli (home made with sea bass filling and crab sauce) and I got the gnocchi (at the recommendation of the server). They were both really good; we liked his better!! Actually, his was amazing! They unfortunately gave my boyfriend the wrong ravioli dish at first. The manager came over a little while later with the right dish. It was not a big problem although we were surprised that they didn't offer to compensate somehow for the mistake; maybe just a glass of wine as a gesture. Regardless, we had a really nice evening on the patio (under a heat lamp!). I walked by just the other night and the place was very crowded; they seem to do a good business. We would definitely go back.

Consistently great restaurant that I love

It's been a while since anyone reviewed Sor Tino and I felt compelled to finally register for CitySearch to share my opinion. To me, this is one of the best Italian restaurants outside of Italy.

My family is Italian and almost every time we get together for dinner we choose a cozy Italian restaurant to share an evening together. The thing about being Italian is that I've had the pleasure of enjoying some unbelievably good home-cooked meals from my grandmother throughout my life. Great home made pasta sauce, lasagna, cioppino, bragiola, risotto, etc...

Unfortunately, this privilege comes with a price as nearly every Italian restaurant leaves me comparing taste with my grandmother's cooking; ultimately leaving me with a disappointing comparison. And then I was introduced to Sor Tino by some friends that moved to LA several years ago from New York City.

Since that time I've eaten at Sor Tino at least 30 times and have never once been disappointed by the food, service, or experience. I almost never call in advance for reservations and am always greeted with Italian politeness and grace and never wait more than a few minutes for a table.

The food is consistently outstanding... my favorite dish (hands down) is the Risotto Pescatora. It's absolutely outstanding. Their pizzas are fantastic as well and for starters I love the Insalata Carciofi, with shaved parmigiana, artichoke hearts, and hearts of palm.

Sure I like to wine and dine at some of the best places (Mastros, Sasabune, Sushi Roku, The Wilshire, etc...) but there's nothing like having a ""sure thing"" always in your back pocket with a wonderful atmosphere, charming experience, and delightful food.

Part of me almost doesn't want to share this opinion publicly since the reviews of Sor Tino on Citysearch are kind of mixed and unjust... but they deserve a true appraisal of their quality.

So there you have it... enjoy

Pizza Great, Fish specials worth it, Cannolis ask for it..

The pizzas are really thin and Neapolitan style. The atmosphere is cozy and warm. Ask for the cannolis for dessert, they have them very rarely, but they are so wonderful and creamy, I figure, If many of us request them they will start making them more often... They told us that if we call in advance, days in advance, they will have them ready for us.. They are that good that we should be preparing our sweet-tooth days in advance. They are like a visit to Sicily, worth planning for.

Highly Recommended for Innovative, Delicious Italian Dishes - TRY THE SPECIALS!

A great casual Italian place on San Vicente's Restaurant Row, Sor Tino serves authentic Florentine cuisine. The specials are usually quite good and different -- they did a nice rabbit dish for a while, and the risotto of the day is most always excellent. The pastas are fantastic and creative: the parpadelle with wild boar sauce (hearty, stew-like) is excellent, as are the gnocchi (very lite and fluffy, served in a light mozzarella tomato sauce). I also enjoy the sea bass-filled ravioli served with a spicy crab arrabiata sauce. Pizzas are thin and crispy. Also, try the carciofi salad -- shaved parmesan with sliced artichoke hearts in a light, lemon vinaigrette. Quite yummy. Desserts are fresh and delicious -- try the creamy (with appropriately balanced bitterness) tiramisu. They have an enclosed patio-area with heat lamps -- just perfect for enjoying a nice meal, a good bottle of wine, and a cup of coffee on a Westside summer evening. The wait staff is very knowledgeable and helpful, as are the managers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Authentic, fabulous!

On our 1st visit, we had the most fantastic waiter - who was friendly & professional. We told him it was our first time there, and he guided us through his favorites. We shared a pizza, and then had the wild boar pasta and the veal pasta. Both were truly wonderful - but we fought over the boar pasta! And the wine list is great! I love, love, love Vietti wines - and they have them! Best Barbera d'Asti you can get at a restaurant for $36. We feel we got much more than we paid for!

Brava Sor Tino!

Great ambiance

My boyfriend and I go here every week. We love sitting outside because it reminds us of a cozy European cafe. They have a great selection of wines...fantastic specials...great healthy and comfort food options. The service is phenomenal. If you want a personable waitstaff then you have it here...if you want to be left alone then look no further. They are accommodating to all personalities and taste buds.

As I arrive to the restaurant it was nearly empty except one couple that was sitting outside. I have a smile on my face, and I'm ready to enjoy a good italian mistake that I choice Sor Tino. The overdressed host was rude, and very short with me, and I had arrived with a huge smile on my face. So I was a bit confused. I tend to be overly gracious when I go to restaurants because I understand the service industry can be tough. So I say please and thank you, constantly. So you can see why I was a bit confused on the waiters constant rudeness every time he came to my table. I immediately tell the server, that I love to eat, and I will be ordering a starter and an entree. They bring out the Seafood soup which was really bland for an Italian restaurant, even though the fish seemed to be semi fresh. As I finish my soup, the server asked me if he can get me anything else. I said yes, my entree. He walks away in a huff, as I over hear him at the next table, he also brought out the wrong entrees for them as well. Mind you there are less than 10 people at the restaurant. The server had a horrible attitude, and I will never go back there. I don't recommend this place, unless you want to wait around for 20 minutes for someone to even approach your table.

The food was slightly overpriced for what is was, authentic but uninspired standard Italian fare. Everyone dining in my general area, including myself, had to speak with the manager at least once during the time I was there because the service was so poor. An apetizer I ordered never came, then after our entrees arrived I had to argue with the waiter about removing it from my bill. There are 4 other better Italian restaurants in Brentwood that you can visit instead.

La dolce vita in Brentwood

Sor Tino is one of the best italian restaurants in LA. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The more surprised I am to see negative reviews critizizing the food, the service and the even the wine. Regarding the wine I can say for sure that there was no reason for complaint: Crystals at the bottom of a bottle of wine are tartrate crystals formed as part of the aging process and are usually a sign that the wine is of good quality. As to the food I can only repeat that it is as it should be: full of flavour and prepared with good quality ingredients, thus the higher price. Yes, quality has its price.

Jewel of Brentwood

You can not go wrong with this great find in Brentwood. This jewel gives Giorgio Baldi's and Via Veneto a run for their money!

Real Italian Food!

The Food is good! The service is welcoming and Italian. I have been there several times, and will probably go there again. The food is good, a little bit over priced though! Wine list is OK too, but no matter what you pick, the waiter suggests a more expensive one!!

been there twice. both times i enjoyed the food and service. i tried their pasta, tasty and fresh.

Nothing to write home about

Overall, an average meal. It tasted good, but was on the pricey side. The house wine tasted like it came out of a can, but hey -- I went for the cheap stuff. Not sorry I tried it, but have no desire to go back. They served us our food way too fast. Couldn't even enjoy conversation before it cam.e

Overpriced attitude, at least portions are small

Not sure if the waiter was Italian or just an actor. Probably actor because his attitude was French. Not only did he bump people in the head while setting down dishes/filling glasses, but he copped attitude whenever we asked questions. Given how hard he was to understand, maybe that accent was authentic afterall...
Portions were miniscule, relatively expensive. You'd expect amazing flavors to make up the difference, but everything was either bland or waaaay too fishy.
They tried to take advantage of our group by burying us in appetizers without making it clear what they were doing, but at least they stopped bringing food when we realized what was happening.
The heaters were set on ""inferno.""
If the food were amazing, I could forgive attitude. If the portions were large, I could forgive the price. But there are way too many options in LA to waste your time here.

Total Rip Off!

I chose Sor Tino for a large group of people because they could accommodate us on the patio-- big mistake. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, and instead of them bringing us one of each, they started bringing out 3 and 4 plates of the same item!! I got a scallop fettucini special that was way too fishy, and a few people in our party who drank wine found sugar crystals forming inside their glass! When this was brought to the server's attention, he said that was 'normal' for a good bottle of wine. The food was totally overpriced and I felt like they were trying to milk us for every penny. It's a shame because they do have a nice patio, but I will never go back.

OK restaurant- depends on what you order

I came here with my family and everyone was very mixed on their opinions of the food they ordered. I ordered the cioppino and I thought it was quite good but the other two people really disliked their dishes. One was the raviolis- they only got literally 5 raviolis and the second was the pizza- I had a slice and it was really bland and awful. Mixed opinion overall- the waiter was a bit snotty.
