I have to admit I haven't stayed over night at the hotel (I'm a local), but I look forward to doing so for a special occasion. I recently had dinner a The Bazaar (see my review- Amazing! If you stay here definitely make dinner reservations!) and had the opportunity to check out the hotel lobby- it's absolutely gorgeous. I was talking to a guest of the hotel and they said the rooms are some of the nicest they've every seen. I guess Phillipe Stark is the designer? All I know is: this place is sexy!

""The Bazaar"" restaurant on the first floor of SLS Hotel --
I actually used to enjoy coming here mostly for great food. Until the
night my purse was stolen from my table, by someone who was sitting
next to us with his group of friends. The security camera was right
above us. However, management refused to show me the tape, call the
police asap and try to track this person down via the credit card that
his table paid with. They were uncooperative and plainly uninterested
in resolving this issue and in helping me getting my property back --
my phone with all my contacts, different ID's, some cash and the keys
to my place. you can imagine of time and money I now have to spend to
try and renew all those things, however most of the business contacts
and information are forever lost. In 30-40 minutes after my property
was stolen I was forced to raise my voice several times to try to get
their attention, BEGGING them to call the police so the report can be
made and show me the tape from the camera. Well, guess what? They did
call cops, but on ME!! What????!!! Are you kidding me?! I'm the victim
here, not the criminal!!! In all this time they could have already
gotten this guys info from his or his friends payment info -- it was a
table of 4 or 5 guys not just one guy, call the police, make the
report and maybe help young girl who now has to break her door down or
at least call a locksmith for me, I mean something, right? But, I keep
forgetting that in the REAL world things are not so simple. So at the
end I did get that yellow paper that's called a ""police report"" in
which the following was written -- Suspect has taken the property and
fled into unknown direction... I guess folks, that's all I will ever
hear.. oh and I was told I was not allowed on premises anymore. I was
what?? Outraged?! You damn right I was! Wouldn't you be? and I guess I
should frame this yellow ""glory paper"" so it can remind me of the
""Protect and to serve"" bitter sweet sentence.
Anyway, guys enjoy the food and hold on to your bags and your ""rights""
, but you have to be aware of the fact that the second thing that
you're holding on to so tightly is only an illusion...

I wish my expereince at the SLs could've been better. I went on Valentines day and a man kept knocking on our door when my boyfriend and i were taking a nap. The man then opened the door to give us chocolates......is it really necessary to intrude into our room to give us two pieces of chocolate? The next morning at 10 am housekeeping repeatedly knocked on the door while we were sleeping. I had to yell to make her go away. We even had our do not disturb light on. Also, the Tv didn't work......At check out the concierge waved the parking fee of $25 dollars.. Thanks.

I like this place. I really do . A lot. Especially the tapas menu - some really innovative offerings. Sure, some of the choices are out there but I lenjoy them. Especially the jicama and guacamole sacks. And the sweet potato chips. And the jamon platter. On the weekends, expect lots of Jags and Mercedes in the parking lot and lots of pretty people inside. But it's still a great place.

I am sorry to report this, but the designers of this hotel thought it right to take a perfectly BEAUTIFUL hotel and destroy it. It was elegant and calm, and now its just terrible. My mother came to see me two years ago, and I put her in here and it was sweet. One year later as SLS she came back and I was so saddened. Its just horrible. Way too uburgroovy without the groove, or any soul. No more.

SLS was put together by a schizo. The design is terrible, it feels so cluttered and gauche, the cocktail menu is short and boring and the ""designer"" drinks are a repeat of the regular cocktails. We had a private table and our waitress was an ignorant lier who could have cared less if we were there. Two people in our party (including myself) had wheat allergies. We asked our waitress if she could find out which deserts we could eat, it was a birthday party after all. She returned a quick moment later and said there was nothing we could have so no one ordered desert. We went to the actual desert counter towards the end of our night where the pastry chef told us she never asked about wheat in the deserts and as it turns out there are a number of wheat free desert items we could have indulged in. I won't return if I can help it.

I like modern and trendy which is why I chose to stay at SLS in Beverly Hill. This hotel is a severe disappointment. It reminded me of being thrown in the back closet of a contemporary art museum where all of the worst pieces are being stored. It is completely dark and cramped - lobby and rooms. Our room was small, with low ceilings. Worse yet, the decor was entirely black and gray with indistinct gray tiling and poor lighting. Low ceilings and a miniscule window with tinted glass contributed to the effect of being stuck in a prison cell (just why I came to sunny LA-- to be locked in a darkened closet-like hotel room). I felt sorry for all of the cool modernist furniture which would have looked great anywhere else. Did I mention the long, boring maze-like halls that go on for ever (even the bell hop complained about them)? The nightclub aspect of this hotel may work but the overnight stay experience was beyond terrible and disappointing.
