After being butchered by several other neighborhood salons I was very pleased to find Purple Circle. I was not only happy with my own haircut but what I saw the other hairdressers doing as well.
A tad pricey for the neighborhood that this is not the place to go if you are a Supercuts person.

I've lived in Los Angeles for 5 years, and have had my fine, curly/wavy-if-blow-dried hair cut by at least 10 different stylists, if not more; with prices ranging $50 to $100. By far, Hazel at Purple Circle has given me the best cut. I had spent 3 years growing my hair long (about 1 1/2 inches past shoulder-length) and was finally ready to cut it short. I had a friend do the dirty work, but she basically just chopped it off, with no style whatsoever. Hazel understood immediately what I was looking for, and gave me a cute bob that worked perfectly for my wavy hair and long face shape. She explained that she'd give free bangs trims, and when I came in 2 weeks later for a full trim because the back felt too long for such a short cut, she once again got it immediately and on top of that, she only charged me half price. I HIGHLY recommend.

After reading the many good reviews at Yelp I decided to give this place a shot. Got a cut with one of stylist and was disappointed. For one, I told her no cutting with the clippers and what did she do? She pulled our the clippers. Also, there was some confusion with her equipment. She went back and forth between the small scissors, large scissors, and clippers. I felt like it was her first cut.
When I got home and observed the cut more closely I noticed the cut was uneven and sloppy. I had to trim the edges myself. The attention to detail was lacking and inexcusable, therefore, I will be be recommending the place.

I'd like to defend Purple Circle a bit here and also let people know that good things do happen there! I recently turned my very curly hair over to Jenny in hopes of starting over, trying to get it to grow out, yet keeping an interesting style without the fro-effect. Jenny listened intently, we brainstormed, she explained her plan to me, I was enthusiastic, and she went right to it. An hour later, a LOT of my hair had been lopped off and de-bulked. It was much more than I expected -- but it looked HOT. I knew we had to even things out (which meant losing some length) in order to get things off to a good start if I do decide to grow out my hair -- but now I'm not so sure I even want to because my hair looks so good! My face is completely reframed; it's really amazing. I never imagined that my hair could look SO good without being so huge and resting maybe 2 inches below my earlobes. Wow, wow, wow. Jenny was also super honest with me: when I asked about color services, she explained everything but told me that since I have nearly black hair, I could continue to dye it on my own as long as my hair wasn't stripped and damaged. I really appreciated that Jenny was so upfront with me! ""Save your money!"", she said, but she did welcome me to use Purple Circle color services if I got tired of doing it myself. Jenny also emphatically told me that if I was unhappy in any way with the cut, I should come back anytime and she'd take off more hair, rework, etc., at no charge. What a pro! What you see is what you get here: the shop is so chill, it's not oppressively hipster chic at all, and watching the people who come in who have really outrageous hair is very cool. I think the key for ANY hair-related experience is being realistic about what you have to begin with and where it can go under the circumstances. Purple Circle was so professional and reasonable for LA ($60 + tip), and they do gorgeous cuts -- my friends with wavy and straight hair see Amie, and they look beautiful.

I wish I wrote a review after my hair got butchered. I might have saved the other reviewer from her disaster. I was traumatized for *months*
My disaster happened 2 years ago and I'm still bitter. Lynn (the owner i believe) was my stylist. I explained that I wanted to have a subtle layer in my shoulder length hair. I said I liked the overall length I just wanted a little texture.. like Uma Thurman in k1ll Bill I said. She nods and starts separating my hair. Next moment. Chop! She cut off a huge piece in front in line with the middle of my ear. It was like i was h1t with a ton of bricks. And then she did the other side. This side she did even shorter so she went back to the first side to even it out! At this point I recovered enough to yell stop. I said she needed to leave me so I can figure out what to do because this is the most unflattering thing I've ever seen.
She was all taken aback.. said I asked for a dramatic line and that's what she gave me. I said I asked for a *subtle layer*. The hair around my ears went from 8 inches down to 1.5. Wtf??! How do you do something that severe without checking that you and the client are on the same page? And she actually proceeded to argue with me that she did what I asked for. Never apologizing. I could not bear going out in public like that for even a second.
She ended up putting in some left over extensions on the sides. Which is awful because you can't comb through your hair and sleeping on your side is uncomfortable. I had extensions for more than six months. and my hair took about 18 months to recover. I had to go back for more extensions after the first ones grew out and she didn't want to do them for free. Sure, and I'm screwed up for a year and a half.
In case it's not clear... I do not recommend going to purple circle *at all*. you're better off cutting your hair yourself.

IN SHORT: I have never paid SO MUCH to look SO BAD. The cut was not at all what i wanted, and the color was a complete disaster.
I had a friend recommend purple circle to me saying they were ""the best at color."" I am a natural blonde but have been dying my hair dark brown for about a year. I wanted to go back to my natural color. Since they were ""the best"" I made an appt. with them to get my hair cut and colored.
the first visit was a disaster. It took over 5 1/2 hours. The colorist did not use bleach AT ALL to lift my near black hair. My intention for going in was to start taking steps toward going blonde. I left with my hair still VERY MUCH BROWN except with random zebra highlights. The cut was not at all what i had asked for or wanted. she agreed to correct the color a week laster
i came back a week later & asked her to lift the color to as blonde as we could get blonde, leave the bottom dark. She first bleached the ends and then waited to bleach the top. the color was corrected with a toner but came out SEVERELY SPLOTCHY.
I went to go get cash to pay for my absolutely horrendous hair and just burst into tears. I came back to pay and just started sobbing at the front desk. The stylist seemed more upset at me for being upset over my hair. I understand that going from dark to light is a process and difficult, but never once did it feel like my stylist understood a WORD i was saying. I know i was asking her to do a difficult task and she probably saw me as a difficult customer. When I was unhappy, she seemed angry at me and not the least bit sympathetic or understanding. She gave me my money back, but i gave it back to her. She spent hours making me look this bad and should be paid for her hours.
I have never paid so much to look so bad. it was over $280 for everything. Im now broke and look absolutely AWFUL. I will never go back to purple circle and would never recommend it to my friends.
