I have been going to La Mascota for years. I absolutely love the green chili cheese tamales. I've also brought in their tamales to work when we had a fundraiser. We sold out with people asking for more. Their bakery goods are delicious as well.
These are the best tamales! Moist, delicious. I am 52 years old, and I can remember when we were kids my mom telling my dad, " only get the tamales from La Mascota"! My mom is a great cook; she always would tell us she knows how to make tamales from scratch. But when we would ask her to make some, she would say, "we'll just buy them from La Mascota". They are that good. When our relatives come from Mexico, they feast on tamales from La Moscota. Be warned; during the Holidays get there early. I get there at 5:30 AM and have to wait in line. Get there after 4 PM and you may find that they have sold out.

I have been buying menudo, pan dulce, cakes and course their tamales for years. One of my favorite things as a kid was going with my dad to pick up some menudo on Sunday morning and watching their staff ground the corn or prepare the tamales by hand. Everything they make here is the way my grandmother used to make it. And you know what I love it.
Walking into the place is an automatic warm fuzzy. La Mascota can do no wrong.
In my travels across the country I would always find tamale makers and spend a lot more money for fresh tamales, but they would never compare. Every time I came back to Los Angeles I would always make sure to stop by La Mascota and pick up a couple dozen tamales to take home and freeze. I would savor them slowly over the next few weeks. They are the bomb and cannot be compared. La Mascota is a hidden treasure that only residents of Boyle Heights know about. I guess it does pay to be born in East LA.

They Have the best tamales you'll ever taste...they make everything fresh, even groud their own corn for the masa, and all hand made by the tamale ladies...their mexican sweet breads melt in your mouth...and their cakes are soooo good. I guess being in busuness for over fifty years they do know what they are doing!
