A few years ago I spent five months traveling in China. When I stepped into Hop Louie's and ate their delicious food - it felt as though I had never left the far east. Authentic and wonderful. My new favorite place.

Not a nice place despite the architecture

we stood in line waiting to be seated for over one hour, finally got a table but they made us wait about half hour more before they took our order, after they took it we waited half hour more and still they wouldn't bring our food. we decided to leave that place. We didn't get to try their food but the waiting time was ridiculous and the place wasn't even crowded. I can't believe I waisted two hours of my life waiting for food that never came.

We Love Hop Louie

What can I say.... Hop Louie.... My family and I have been enjoying their food for years. And yes, the first time we entered their doors, the owner seemed a little short with us. But, within our second visit to the restaurant, the owner was thrilled to see us return, and served us like kings. He and his family who run the restaurant now greet us with warm open arms, tell us ancient Chinese proverbs, and even invite my little daughter to run the cash register??? This is a truly unique experience, and just to let you know it does get full during lunch time on the weekdays!!

Great Place.

I love this place.

Just because there isnt any bloodshed, it doesnt mean there is no glory. Hop Louie can be a very exhilarating restaurant especially if you find a way to get out of the deadly gridlock. Let the eatting begin!

Bad service

Bartender ""Sinky"" the rudest bartender in the west coast. Very dark, a good crowd, specially if a boxing is on TV. Food upstairs is terrible.

Midwestern Tourists ONLY

In the heart of Chinatown is the oft-photographed Hop Louie restaraunt. The outside is charming, a bit kitschy, and a definate photo-op. Do yourself a favor though and stay outside.

Inside, the decor is classic Chinese restaurant (circa 1983) and the clear plastic on the seat cushions sets a classy tone.

We caught lunch there one afternoon and, without going into flowery details:

The food was greasy and unappetizing (soup excepted which wasn't bad). The main items we left 80% uneaten. The service was unattentive. The other patrons were obnoxious tourists (NO locals to be found). The bill was more than it was worth.
