Met a friend at Gushi last night on her recommendation, and it was a well-deserved one. Gushi's menu is filled with Korean-style tapas, sushi, salads, seafood, sizzling plates like Bi Bim Bop, Bulgogi and more - and all for great prices. We arrived a few minutes before 7pm and were able to get their happy hour prices on most of our food and drinks - total bill was $39 for like 5 dishes and three drinks!
Definitely recommend this location as well, there were plenty of seating and the servers were definitely attentive. Everything was great, just wish I had more time and room to try everything on the menu. I will definitely be back for seconds.

Fish fresh and good - I had big, yummy oysters and yellowtail. It's more like a $$$ than a $$, which is kind of average for good sushi anyway.
Nice date place - candles on the tables, etc. Could do without the t.v. on the wall, but that seems to be widely accepted these days.

I have been eating sushi for many years, know many of the sushi places around town, and actually worked in an upscale sushi bar on Madison Ave. in NYC, just out of college. I had gone to Sush Anju under the old ownership on numerous occassions. Mostly because I love sushi and it is very close to where I live. The owner Hideko was pleasant enough, the food was OK (safe quality), but the portions were miserly. The owner was obviously behind the bar, very cost concious as he was very stingy with the fish portions. Prices were OK but you had to eat 2 items to get the effect of one order of sushi elsewhere. I recently tried it under the new ownership for lunch. As I walked in the sushi bar guys were ready to go but the waitress was very slow in getting to me and once she took my order equally slow in getting me my water and tea. To give you an idea how slow, the guys had made my lunch before she brought me the beverages. The food however was worth the wait; generous in portion, good quality and priced fairly. The guys behind the bar were friendly, attentive and unlike some bars I have gone to, happy to take care of your needs- no attitude where you feel you have to beg to get their attention to order the next item. I look forward to trying Sushi Anju again and hope they are consistent with the food quality as I will go there often if they are. I just hope they hire a waitress who understands basic service priorities; people do not like to wait for service when the place is practically empty and to take care of customers before cleaning vacant tables .

I agreed with the other reviewer. Anju Sushi used to be great, my fiancee and I really liked it before the new management took over. The food used to be great and the food presentation was great, too.
Now the decor has improved, but they changed the menu to something not as good as it used to be. Also, the food quality & presentation have definitely gone down hill.
6 months ago, we were going to book it for our rehearsal dinner, but now after the new management took over, we've changed our venue.

Sushi Anju used to be my favorite sushi place. My boyfriend introduced me to the place 3 years ago. We loved this place. The food and prices were excellent. The previous owner sold the restaurant and since then, Anju has gone downhill. The decor has improved. That's all I can say positively about the change. A few months ago, my bf and I went to eat there. The waitress seated us and when she handed us a sushi (paper) menu, she marked on it and indicated ""We are out of these. We ran out of this fish last night"". Bad sign. We ordered and when we got our food, the sushi did not taste fresh. We were very unsatisfied. We quickly asked for the check and went to another sushi place a few miles away.

Tucked away at a random strip mall in WLA/Santa Monica sits Anju Sushi. This is a hidden gem on the westside. You wouldn't think it was anything special from the first steps passed the front door. But once you see the cute/cozy/modern decor and taste the food, you know it's outrageous! The service is very personal, the sushi is fresh and yummy, and the desserts are extremely tasty and creative. The restrooms are beautiful and modern/ plenty of parking/ and friendly and helpful staff. Love this place!

My fiance and I went there last night just for a quick dinner.
It's sad to say we were both very disappointed and shocked in what we got, the sushi rolls were the smallest we'd ever seen. Good thing we had only ordered one... Then, after spending $35 we weren't even full !! Everything was overpriced for what they serve, the menu was confusing and hard to look at, and we sure won't be going back there ever again.

I took my girlfriend, who loves sushi, to this place for her b-day. When I called to make the reservation, I mentioned nothing about her b-day, just the usual, time, # in party, etc. I was then asked if this was a special occasion, I said, well yes, actually, girlfriend, birthday. We arrived, they seated us in a separate dining area from the crowds, very pleasant. The interior was well decorated and had a peaceful ambience. The food was superb, according to my girlfriend, a tough critic. And, without even asking for it, they brought out a complimentary dessert with candles. And this wasn't some cheapo cupcake, this was one of their menu desserts, a creme brulee with ice cream, FREE without even putting in a request (and yes, they saved me because I had failed to make dessert plans). We were of course shocked, we'd never experienced that kind of customer service. And to top it all off: the final bill was reasonable for multiple rolls, wine and appetizer. Fifty bucks for two people (tip not included). I'm telling you: try it. Even if you hate it (which you won't), the financial loss will be minimal.
