We are often asked why we call ourselves Elephant Moving Company. No, we have never moved an elephant. That's not to say we wouldn't move an elephant if we were asked to. Of course it would have to be a smaller elephant. The Los Angeles Times printed an article titled Name That Mover ( June 3, 1999 ) with our explanation for our name. Elephants are strong and gentle, both good qualities for a moving company. Most moves involve a significant change in the life of the person or persons requiring that service. The help and guidance of an experienced mover is essential during these transitions. That is why the first words of this web site are Helping you is what we are about. In fact psychologists rank moving as the third most disruptive event in a person's life, after a death in the family and losing a job. Moves are like milestones in a life. You are married and you move in with your partner. Your financial situation improves, or children need more space, and you move to a larger residence. The children move out and you don't need all that room anymore. A loved one passes on and you move to a smaller place or a retirement home. Moving is part of the cycle of life. With over 30 years of experience and references for relocation services for the Greater Los Angeles area, we can make the transition as smooth as possible for Southern California residents. Our Adventures in Moving Moving is difficult work but it is also interesting work because every move is different. Some of our more noteworthy moving experiences are... We were called and asked to immediately move a gentleman from his upscale home because he could not live another day with his wife. That man was a tire salesman and for many years we purchased all our truck tires from him. His ex wife eventually married a wealthy and famous movie director, and called upon us to move her and her husband from Beverly Hills to Las Vegas. Their possessions completely filled five trucks. We have moved women who were leaving their husband or boyfriend without telling them. During one such move the man showed up. Needless to say it was an unpleasant situation. However the move continued to completion. On a move from Los Angeles to Big Bear our truck broke down while carrying a full load. It required a new starter motor but it was a weekend so we offered to pay for an overnight stay but the shipper insisted that he could not wait. We located a new part and installed it in the evening by flashlight. The new residence had a driveway that had been freshly bulldozed on the side of an incline. While backing up this driveway in the dark the soft earth gave way and the truck leaned to one side so much that it appeared close to tipping over. We worked through the night unloading the truck. In the morning a tow truck came and pulled the truck into an upright position while the shipper slept. While performing an estimate our estimator turned a latch in a bathroom thinking it would open a cabinet, as he wanted to see what goods needed to be packed inside. However the latch was actually a lever which actuated the shower and the estimator got a soaking. Fortunately it was a warm day. Our most memorable move was one we sadly never completed. On July 6, 1983 we received a call from Vicki Morgan. Vicki had been the mistress of the multimillionaire Alfred Bloomingdale from the famous Bloomingdale department store family. After Mr. Bloomingdale passed away she fell upon hard times. At the time she called she was living in a condo in studio city and was being evicted. It was unusual for someone to schedule a large move on such short notice but we agreed to perform the move. In the morning we arrived to find police at the residence. Vicki had been murdered during the night by her room mate. Conspiracy theorists question who actually committed this murder as Vicky claimed to have been involved in sexual activities with other wealthy and influential people including some high ranking members of the Reagan admini

Very good movers

After receiving three estimates Elephant's was much lower than one and a little higher than the other. However the estimator, whom I later discovered was the owner, pointed out potential problems and how his company would take special precautions to ensure everything was safely moved. I just felt more secure with Elephant Moving. After scheduling my move they were helpful and patient when I had to change plans twice, once to include an extra stop and a second time to add some items. The move was completed without incident by three nice gentlemen who were very competent.

A Very Good Mover

Elephant Movers moved our home on a rainy day recently. I had to be out that day and I was worried they might refuse to work in such terrible conditions but they came over as planned and did a great job. All my furniture was covered with plastic wrapping and arrived completely dry. The men did not complain and were pleasant all through the move.

The best we've had

This was our third move in LA and Elephant was better than our previous movers by a large margin. Prior to our move we visited their office on Venice Blvd. near the Helms Bakery complex of furniture stores and took advantage of their box refund policy (full refund of the purchase price of 50 boxes). Graham, their manager, was most pleasant and helpful. Our previous move had been undermanned and lasted until way into the night. Graham advised, correctly as it turned out, how many men we needed to do the job in a reasonable amount of time. On move day the movers worked well with one another. When they brought our furniture into our new home they put everything where we asked, and didn't complain when we didn't like the first arrangement and asked them to move some items a second time. Moving is no fun but a good mover like Elephant sure makes it easier. And, true to their word, we received a $110 refund when we returned our boxes.

Horrible movers!

Horrible movers!
I tried them for my last move and they were terrible. The broke lots of stuff and tons of scratches, dings (smashed my computer, lamps, etc). They forgot a bunch of stuff and then had to load things into my car because they said the truck was already loaded and they didn't want to repack everything to fit the stuff they forgot to load. The one guy was SOOO chatty! He was the guy wrapping furniture and he kept stopping to tell me stories I didn't want to hear. He was very friendly but I'm not paying him by the hour to talk to me. They kept asking me to help carry things too. They have three guys and I'm paying based on a ""not to exceed"" estimate. Why should I have to carry as much stuff (probably more) than any of those three guys? And the one chatty guy kept asking for food. He kept saying ""most people have food for us"" even after I already fed him several times. Also, they were VERY slow, and they kept disappearing throughout the day. I finally went looking for them and found one guy just sitting in the truck drinking a beer. I never found out where the other two guys kept going. At the end of the day I got a call from the supervisor (owner? dispatcher?) saying they went three hours over the not to exceed price and blamed it on a ""long walk"" from the elevator. He insisted that I pay at least half of the overtime. I won't use those guys again.

Highly Recommend Movers. from someone who has moved 3 times in the last 4 yrs.

These guys helped me move in October. They were excellent, efficient, friendly and professional. I had to move a bigscreen tv and they didn't charge me extra for the packing or the difficulty of the move. They even moved faster than I thought.
I highly recommend these guys to anyone moving in the LA area. I only wish I knew about them 2 moves ago.

The Most Wonderful Movers in all of Los Angeles

Everyone has heard horror stories about movers who drag their feet and move slowly to drive up hourly costs, damage your goods, and surprise you with a bill full of hidden charges that were never discussed in the original quote. NOne of those things will happen to you with Elephant Moving Company. This is the most professional, reasonably priced moving company you will ever find. I bought my boxes from them and they permitted me to return the boxes for a full refund after the move was completed. They showed up on the day of the move with plenty of extra boxes in cases I needed more and helped me pack up rooms that I had not yet had an opportunity to pack. Packing my apartment was not part of our original deal but it was done with a smile. In addition, they showed up on time, worked tirelessly, and charged me the exact price they promised. Not a single possession was damaged in any way whatsoever. On top of all of that, the movers were so friendly and curteous. I had an all day move and it was a pleasure to spend my day with these gentlemen. They not only moved the items into my new home but indulged my endless requests for them to move furniture in rooms so that I could figure out their placement. And, without a single groan or roll of the eyes, they catered to my desire to put soft feet on the bottom of each and every item before they were placed on my new hardwood floors. All in all, it could not have gone better. I highly recommend that anyone doing a move use this company.

Great movers with great customer service

My wife and I recently moved locally in Los Angeles and Elephant Movers was about the only thing that went right. These guys are professional, courteous and offer great customer service - the best part is there are NO hidden fees and the rate was very good. In addition, they offer a refund service on boxes you buy from them! Highly recommended!
