Best workout of my life!!! Well, let me also say that my first impression of the school of martial arts west la was that it doesn't look like any other school I have practiced at before, it's a lot better; I have over 7 years experience total in both Shotokan Karate and Brazilian Jui-Jitsu styles and have experienced quite a few schools. I love practicing at this location and not just because of the environment. What I was looking for in a martial art school is effective self-defense, cardiovascular workout, and quality teaching: Effective self-defense is much more difficult than it might seem. I'm a petite woman, who is all of 5 feet tall, and I don't have the weight and power of 6+ foot man. Because of my size, I need to practice truly practical self-defense. So far, I'm very satisfied with what is being taught from an effective technique perspective. Since I break a hard sweat and breathe heavy in every class, I must say I've been consistently happy with using martial arts class for all my cardio needs... thus my opening statement. As for quality teaching, well, this has been an issue in the past for me. I have experienced many athletically talented teachers in martial arts. But I've come to the disappointing realization that athletically talented does not mean talented at teaching. I'd just like to say I hold my now current teacher Sifu Scott in the utmost regard and now consider myself one lucky experienced student. Other notable positives that people may want to consider are the ample free parking (2 additional levels of underground parking; living in Santa Monica helps you appreciate this) and the schools' open schedule to students (which allows me come in any day the school is open; which is helpful in my case because of my changing schedule). I am hopeful this review is helpful to any potential or existing martial artists. I have a descent amount of experience, I truly do love practicing here, and if you are shopping around for a true martial arts experience, definitely put this school at the top of the list for consideration.
This Taekwondo center is a nice place and the Instructors are friendly. They have annual picnics, parties, and are like a big family. However, with all of that said, Head Master Kim is not friendly like the other Instructors, lack people skills, intimidate and humiliate the children, yells way too much when it's just not necessary, and just seems to have a BULLY type personality. My children have been here for six months and are progressing nicely through the ranks, but they as well as myself are tired of always being on the lookout for how Instructor/Head Master Kim will act. There are a couple of children that need constant fussing at because of the way they act, but I feel Instructor Kim goes overboard and is allowed to act this way. There have been many parents and children as well as Black Belt Instructors that have left because of Master Kim and nothing changes as a result. He even humiliates Cesy who is a Black Belt female that also works admin for them in the office. He yells at her and blames her for everything right in front of the parents.....it's very unprofessional in my opinion. Head Master/Instructor Kim is just immature and simply out of control and crosses the line between being an effective child Taekwondo teacher and a bully. When a six year old child is standing in front of you crying because they didn't understand something and you keep yelling at him/her, the only thing you're teaching that child is to be afraid of you. I'm jus sayin.....Sadly, I need to decide if I'm going to take my children and money and go somewhere else where we will be happy with everyone and not have to deal with someone that has no respect for anyone. smh
I first met Master Park in New York over ten years ago when he initially arrived in the United States. Master Park came to the US to join the team at the New York Taekwondo School I had been studying at for several years. What I especially appreciated about Master Park was his exceptional ability to skillfully instruct all the students regardless of their age, belt level, personality, goals and ability. He brought to the school a superior level of instruction and professionalism. Not only was he able to help the black belts progress, he had an extraordinary way with the new students, children and teens. I was disappointed when Master Park left for California to open his own school, United Taekwondo, but I was happy that he was continuing his teaching and sharing his philosophical knowledge of this fascinating martial art and sport. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to visit Master Park at his school, United Taekwondo, in Los Angeles, and I was very happy to see that Master Park and his school was doing well and he was still doing an outstanding job offering his students an excellent opportunity to benefit from the teachings and spirit of Taekwondo. Congratulations Master Park!
I received my orange belt in no time at all and was so happy that I had learned so much. Unfortuantely I was relocated with my job but will hopefully continue studying this art in my future. The class and Grandmaster Chong left a wonderful lasting impression. There are a few teachers and the classes and times vary depending on your schedule. I did the day classes and really enjoyed those. Grandmaster Chong helps you to reach your highest potential throughout your different belt stages and always teaches you for your further training. The classes are mixed both male and female, and dont worry ladies there are plenty of females to learn from and work with. For me it was hard to go to a gym and pay lots of money for equipment and classes that I would have to push myself to go to alone. But this tae kwon do really helped me to focus, learn, sweat, and reach great flexibility. Not to mention the self defense is a great thing to know. I highly recommend checking this place out, you will not regret it.
I have 2 kids who've practiced a couple different styles the past few years. One of which is a popular local karate chain. We recently decided to change martial art schools and were very fortunate in finding this one. This school is something different, and much better, from what else you'll find out there from my experience. I truly wish my kids had gone here from the beginning of their practice. I think my wife and I have wasted quite a bit of money and time elsewhere. The difference between schools is night and day. Instead of an overpriced fun babysitter, our kids are now learning real martial arts, getting great physical excercise, self-defense, and all at a significant fraction of what we paid the past few years elsewhere. I am very doubtfull there are equivilant schools to this one, let alone better ones. This school does an absolute superb job
I first started working out at regular gyms...in which I will not say the names of.I heard about Legends through a friend that would drive and hour and a half every day from orange county just to train and workout at this gym.I tried it out once and couldnt believe the workout I got!I have now been at Legends For 6 months and have never been in bette shape in my life. The staff, the environment, and the cleanlyness of this gym is immaculate and I would never settle for anything less now.I highly recommend at least trying out at least one class and Im sure you will feel the same way.ALSO, I have gotten 3 free months because they have this deal where every person you bring in after signing up you get a month free.
Just what I was looking for!! I signed up for the adult martial art class, and Sifu Scott does the best job around teaching mixed martial arts in a traditional setting with meditation and mindfulness. I'm not sure there is another school quite like it within driving distance. I feel very fortunate to have found this dojo. I've already had some friends and family sign up after me. I'm happy to recommend to anyone.
I signed my son and daughter up 6 years ago after we were invited to a Maina Tae Kwon do bowling party. They loved it and wanted to join right away. The instructors are great and its a relief knowing that while they're learining to defend themselves they also have become better listeners and they have learned to focus more in general. Thanks everyone @ Marina Tae Kwon Do
Best martial arts school in LA. Period. I've practiced martial arts for almost my whole life and the instruction is top notch. Beautiful facility. Brad was very helpful and knowledgeable, and Sifu Scott knows his stuff. Every class is a killer workout. I leave sweaty and sore and looking for more.
Beautiful place to practice! Not only does the school look like you want to practice there, but the teaching is also top notch. I've really come to appreciate Sifu Scott and what he has to offer. I love the great workout, techniques, and mental aspects of this school.
