We made a reservation at 6 p.m...

We made a reservation at 6 p.m. on Sunday and when we got there, it was already packed. The place is very small (can probably fit 30 people or so) so reservation is a must on weekends. We had an amazing Travelozoo deal where 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, 1 pizza or pasta, 2 entrees are only $65 for two! For appetizers, we tried Baccala (whipped salt cod croquettes. salsa rossa) and Fichi (figs. whipped sheeps milk ricotta. saba). Baccala was good but a bit too salty and wasn't my favorite. Fichi, on the other hand, was amazing. I loved it. The next course was pizza; we chose Margherita D.O.P. (tomato. mozzarella di bufala. basil.). This was our waitress's #1 recommendation but it was very disappointing; it wasn't good at all. For entrees, we had Agnello (colorado lamb chops. potatoes. artichokes. black olive) and Port Braciole (neapolitan ragù. swiss chard). Both are very good but not the best Italian dishes I've had. The restaurant was packed so it took forever to bring the food; we didn't mind since we were not in a hurry but I saw two separate guests that night complaining to the manager. Our waitress was very apologetic and checked on us many times and they gave us free dessert so that was nice. I didn't see any self parking space or valet but you can find paid meter parking; but only 1 hour max so we had to leave the restaurant to feed the meter again while waiting for the food. Overall, I liked the restaurant and its ambiance and because of the Travelzoo deal, it was very good deal. But, I'm not too sure if I would come back here again anytime soon (I would rather want to check out other Italian restaurants in the area...)

Enzo & Angela The Italian Restaurant
aelawler1 rated
What a wonderful experience!

Eating at Enzo and Angela's Restaurants was one of the highlights of our vacation. We were exhausted and getting ready to return to Chicago when we decided to dine out. Upon entering, it was the perfect remedy for a stressed packed day. The ambiance was charming and inviting. The waiter was extremely personable. It was almost like walking into another world. The waiter brought warm bread to our table and I can honestly say, it was the most delicious bread we have ever had in our lives. I personally am not a "salad" person, but the salad was fabulous...fresh, crisp and inviting. Next came the homemade pasta which we thought was "out of this world." Angela, one of the owner's, came over to our table and was absolutely charming. We had such a wonderful experience that we returned the next week only to discover that it was closed for vacation time. We were so disappointed that we decided to tell all of our friends to eat there. We also have made a vow to never visit LA unless it includes another wonderful dinner at Enzo and Angela's. Would I recommend it? Absolutely! Ironically, Chicago is known for its fine Italian cusine, but for what it is worth, I would rate this restaurant up with the best that we have in Chicago... Perhaps higher because the prices were soooooo reasonable. Joyce Moone' and June Ryl-Kuchar Palos Heights, Illinois

Cheebo
justinwicker rated
Organic? Is it really? I didn't know!

Cheebo apparantly prides itself on being 'organic.' Here is the beauty of that. I've eaten there about a dozen times, as it is just up the street, and I've taken many visitors from out of town to Cheebo as I feel it is a great spot to eat and squeeze in a little entertainment. For one, the location almost guarantees a celebrity sighting and the paper table cloths and Crayolas at every table give you the opportunity to conduct impromptu Rorschach tests on your guests. But that is beside the point. Point is, I had no idea they were organic. The food is traditional but always tastes above par for the course. Salads, sandwiches, pizzas and pastas are all on offer in many varieties. Not your typical organic menu no? Sounds somewhat everyday, but as I said, all of these seem to be a bit more than you'd expect in flavor and presentation. Specialty entrees are always plated beautifully though I've never ordered one. I come to Cheebo for their pizzas. The crust is amazing and their choice of toppings always fresh. Finding out that ingredients are organic puts to rest that lingering question I've had about Cheebo. Why is the cheese so good? I guess organic mozzarella is the way to go. It is creamy and stringy and stretchy and just so right on with their wild meshroom and pesto pizza. You can eat on the cheep at Cheebo, but by adding one beer you tack on about ten dollars to your tab. So, keep that in mind if you are planning on making this your local haunt.

Di Vita's Italian Restaurant
Ashley D. rated

I miei fratelli e sorelle! It's been awhile and I've been pleasantly adrift Lord knows where but when I finally resurfaced, I was craving a quick Italian fix. The stupor caused by mind numbing days at the office caused me to forget about the dirty old neighborhood friend (shoot, you know we all have 'em, okay) in Di Vita's. Old dirty Di Vita's. My ex-supervisor used to order from this place ALL THE TIME. Calzones - he swore by them. There used to be a gi-normous blond gal behind the counter there and she was feeling my ex-boss something fierce. Why, there were days when he went down there and I thought he might not make it out alive. Forgive me but I digressed. Anyhow, we were craving quick-fast-and-a-hurry eats...cheese pizza, chicken alfredo and something for dessert was what we ordered. Well, you probably get the idea here - it's never that memorable but it gets the job done and gets it done on the cheap. BONUS! - they deliver. It's been awhile since I been to the spot but I drive by there all the time. It's not much on decor but sometimes, you don't need to dress up to stuff the pig, capiche? Anyhow, keep this place in mind when you're in a bind (or just desperate and need something easy and quick). Dunno about you but I ain't too proud to beg - even for Di Vita's. Ciao for now! Good eating to you!

Palermo Italian Restaurant
Christine R. rated

We were doing a little pub crawl down Vermont last night....but it stopped here. We sat at the bar with Heather from NYC. She was great fun. This place takes me out of LA. Very unassuming, charming...like my boyfriend said, it reminds you of the place you went with the family for your 1st Communion. (You Catholics know what I mean!) As soon as we sat down at the bar, we had a few slices of pizza in front of us. We grabbed a table for dinner, and split the veggie lasagna. The cheese pasta sauce ratio was perfect, and the sauce is great. To his dismay, it was full of mushrooms. But, I enjoyed those, he picked them out, and LOVED this dish. Plenty to split. The traditional garlic bread and house salads are a great start as well. I wish they had a better wine by the glass selection, next time I'll order a bottle. And we'll get the pizza next time. The sweet bartender got us a slice of tiramisu to split, maybe to welcome me to the neighborhood? It was a really nice touch! Overall, we'll go back again. On a cheat day. Heavy delish traditional comfort food. Glad we walked home.

Bestia Restaurant
Sean L. rated

Second time at Bestia and we enjoyed our time at the counter. If it's just two of you, you should really try the counter and watch some of the appetizers as they're being prepared. We ordered the calamari to start with, mostly because it sounded really good on the menu, but the cooks were preparing the tomato salad over and over again. My wife and I just stared. Over. And over. Again. And again. Obviously almost every table was ordering the tomato salad. Mind you. We walked in as soon as they opened the door and we were waiting behind a line of 20 or so customers. We ordered the calamari, a pasta w/ homemade sausage, and the ribeye. Before the ribeye made it out, we gave in. We ordered the tomato salad after watching the 20th salad plate go out. With burrata and other things on the dish that we couldn't figure out... We absolutely loved it. In the end...Happy birthday to me! PS. Parking isn't easy. About $8 if you want valet. Also, reserving ahead of time is HIGHLY recommended.

Best Italian in LA

From the minute you walk in, you know exactly how authentic this Italian restaurant is. The first thing you see is the chefs in the kitchen, manning multiple pans of sauces, pastas, and pizzas. The decor is a mix between country charm and gastro-pub, with wooden tables and wine menus and specials displayed on chalkboards around the room. It's a small, cozy space, and can get a little loud when it's full (which it almost always is), but that's just part of the charm. The food is just amazing. From the bread and antipasto they bring out at the beginning of the meal, to the perfectly crusted pizza and the just-so sauced pasta, I've never had a meal here that wasn't excellent (and I've been here a lot). Never had room for desert, but I expect that would be great, too. Good for: romantic meals, out of town guests, a spectacular dinner every time you're in Los Feliz.

Gardens

my husband and i were walking along the sidewalk trying to decide where to have lunch. the aroma coming from this restaurant was our decision maker.......and we are happy with our decision. upon entering we noticed a beautiful mural on the west wall which brings you into the feel of italy. the menu contains a variety of choices. we each picked a pasta dish and were very happy to find them full of flavor. we started with a very crisp fresh salad & garlic bread. the price was right and the portions large, so were were able to bring half of each dish home. gardens has a wide variety of wines and beer choices, reasonably priced as well. what a wonderful gem to find when out on a saturday walk........

Allacqua

The restaurant is really beautiful. Loved the atmosphere, and it is pretty big, with its own parking lot. There aren't a lot of comfy booths or anything, but there is a lot of seating in chairs. The menu changes weekly (the specials), and the food was okay - I had the pizza, and it was fine - a little dry. My friend loved the burrata, and another had a steak salad that she enjoyed. We also had the donut dessert, which was not as great as it sounded - the donuts were really hard on the outside and oddly doughy on the inside (like Indian bread). It had a vaguely beer-like taste. Server was very nice, but got a little inattentive by the end of the meal. We went for lunch (the place opens at 11:30am).

Mario Batali at a discount price

I'm sure I am preaching to the choir of die-hard fans of Nancy Silverton and Mario Batali's neighborhood pizzeria. IF your neighborhood happens to be in a star-studded area of Hollywood. The people-watching and the star-gazing are almost as good as the pizza, which is pretty sublime. Given that I've tasted pretty much everything on the menu, I can say that with a dash of confidence. The only drawback is that you have to make reservations well in advance. Otherwise, you run the risk of appearing like the dog begging for scraps at the table if you dare to show up with a reservation. And when you finally get seated, it could be well past the 11th hour (literally). Edit Remove
