Located at the center area of Grand Central Market, McConnell's was the only ice cream vendor among all. I was here with some friend on a typical Saturday. The wait time was about 20 mins before ordering. All their ice flavors were listed on a board above your head and there were about 12 different kinds. Some of them seemed to have unique combinations, such as Churros Con Leche and Earl Grey Tea & Butter Biscuit. Definitely ask for samples if you're first-timer. The staffs were very friendly and never hesitated to give you good, spoonful amount of ice cream to try out. My favorites were the Eureka Lemon Marionberries and the Earl Grey Butter Biscuit! The two scoops ice cream on cone came out to be around $8, but the excitement and enjoyable moment were priceless. The main parking lot at Grand Central Market can be pricy. Daily Maximum is $25. So park somewhere else nearby (normally $8-10 flat rate) and walk over.
This new ice cream spot on the corner of Griffith Park Blvd and Hyperion Avenue is a yummy addition to the neighborhood. Notable, tasty flavors and super-friendly staff made this a great Sunday afternoon break from the heat for my son and me. We had the malted milk chocolate, pistachio, Mexican hot chocolate, and sweet cream flavors. My son declared it the best ice cream he has ever had, so I am sure we will be back, even if the treats were a little pricey.
The selection of flavors is a bit limited, but this place is all about the gimmick: their ice cream is churned by peddling a bicycle that's connected to the churn through a series of gears and chains. You can even volunteer to ride the bike in exchange for free ice cream. Though close to some unsavoriness of Skid Row, this is still a very worthy (and tasty) downtown destination.
Someone recommended this place several years ago when I worked within walking distance of this yummy place! So glad they did! Even though I no longer work in that area & live approx an hour plus away I still make sure to get down there at least once a month! I have yet to have something I don't like, and I'm a picky eater! The gelato is out of this world!!
In a hot day or if you got a sweet tooth then this is the place to come. They have a huge selection of fruit and milk based ice cream. Even some rare hard to come by flavors can be found here. The only problem they have is the lack of space inside the store since and the lack of good parking. Other that everything is great.
Some really interesting flavors and they are very patient about letting you sample whatever you want. (You could almost fill up just doing that, because the flavors are so rich). Secret tip: order the "bambino" size, which is off menu. it's one small scoop meant for kids, but is just the right amount and is a little cheaper.
For all pie lovers, this is the place to go for delicious pies. A must try is their maple custard and banana cream pie. They also serve great coffee to go along with your pie. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The only thing is that you'll have to drive around a bit for parking but there's always one nearby.
This place is absolutely amazing, ice cream is made daily without preservatives. this place has very unique flavors like cabernet and goat cheese, lavender and honey, but all of them taste really good. By the end of the night, there is almost no ice cream left. Everyday there are new flavors!
Yummy shaved ice! Love getting either the black sesame or green tea with rice balls and red bean. They also have rotating new flavors that is special for that period of time. It was watermelon basil couple of weeks ago and now it's cantaloupe. Lines can be long though as it is super popular.
Sno balls have so many flavor to choose from. Not only do they make the best sno balls. The sno balls are so delicious because of the shaved ice. If you are not a fan of the sno balls try their funnel cakes. Oh my goodness they are made to order and you can get it plain or with topping.
