I will never go back to Salud. I went in, using Medicare, trying to find a local MD for my prescriptions (for seizures & other problems). It was nearly a 3 hour wait. The front desk person wouldn't tell me how much I might have to pay. When the Physician's Asst. finally came to get me, he acted extremely Oddly. He kept his face about 1" from mine, firing questions at me---at the same time that the MD was asking questions & filling out a computer form. I felt very uncomfortable with two people shouting (literally) questions at me. After about 45 min. of this, they told me "you aren't ill enough to see us, you will have to go to Boulder County Mental Health." When I'd first come in, I told the PA that BCMH had sent me to Salud because I was "not ill enough to see BCMH doctors." An absolute run-around. I've heard similarly bad things from other people.
Unless you're mexican and popping kids out every 10 months, you're going to be treated like crap. No one in that office wants to work. You do their work for them. You're lucky if they even transfer a call. Heck, you're lucky if they answer. When they do expect the wrong answer just to get you off the phone. They sit there all day and treat you like crap, they grab that paycheck and do nothing except sit on their a***es until they close. LAZY. I know quite a few Americans that would like a job, but they dont hire Americans. Isn't that descrimination? Oh that's right, no laws pertain to them.

I've never had any trouble at the Salud in Longmont. They sometimes get backed up but that's normal for a community health clinic. The staff has always been very helpful and respectful with anything me or my family needs.
The whole sliding scale thing gets confusing though... the only way to avoid it is to pay a boatload of money for health insurance and for a lot of us, that's not an option.
Bummer to hear about other folks not having as good an experience but health coverage is a hassle to deal with. salud does a good job for my family and I know going to the emergency room is a WAY bigger pain in the b*tt.
Wish I had my own personal doctor (and a private driver too... why not) but till then, I've got no problems with Salud and trust them with both my little ones.

I called for info regarding use of the facility and could not get one answer to my questions. Costs, charge, etc. and was told I need to call in on Thurs and make an appt., at which time they could evaluate my situation and give me my cost-just for the visit-from $35. to $150. This cannot possibly be the way they operate? I was in a daze after attempting to speak with the person who answered the phone.

Salud Family Health Center is the worst clinic I have EVER dealt with.
We had been forced to use this clinic for a medicaid patient in our house hold. He is not a minority or a pregnant female, so we would be discriminated against constantly. We would ALWAYS be in the waiting room at least two hours after our scheduled appointment, while the rest of the patients cycled through twice. A 15 min appointment would take at least 4 hours to complete at the site.
They will only write us a prescription for 3 months at a time, then tell us to have refills phoned in for authorization. They DO NOT refil prescriptions by phone, only by fax. But hey how convenient is it that they never got the 5 faxes that my pharmacy can prove they sent? 5 days later (after business hours of course) they call to say that they won't refill his meds without seeing him. that would have been nice to know BEFORE he ran out of his life saving meds and has to be taken to the hospital because he won't wake up.
Every refill experience is just as painful. It takes at least a dozen faxes and phone calls to get a response from anyone in their office.
The last time we tried to make an appointment they say that they only make same day appointments, So i begin calling as soon as they are supposed to answer their phones. I'm usually on hold for 10-20 min, by the time I get to tell someone that if they put me on hold one more time we're going to have problems, guess what... Oh they are already full for today.
If you have any other options for places to go, do it! I have finally resigned myself to having to drive our family member into Lafayette instead of subjecting myself to the incompetence of this clinic one more time. I hear from the pharmacist that they have the same refill problems with the clinic in Firestone as well.
