My son, who is almost 10, started with Martial Arts America when he was 4. He's been through their Tigers, BBC 1, and BBC 2 programs. He got his first degree black belt this spring. His confidence, pride, self control, discipline, perseverance -- they have all blossomed, thanks in great part to the MAA program. Most recently, he was pretty daunted by the black belt requirements -- but the support he got from the instructors and his fellow students allowed him to push through, and the joy he felt when he got his black belt is something I will never ever forget!!Ms. Hespen, the head instructor at the San Ramon school, is absolutely amazing. She is just the right combination of firm yet understanding, and she always notices when a kid is feeling a little lost or unsure. Mr. Ballecer, from the Livermore school, is also incredible -- he takes the time to get to know all the kids, even from other schools, and finds time at tournaments or workshops or workouts to give just the right words of encouragement. In addition to a fabulous teaching staff, I also love two other main aspects. First, the values that are taught at the school (the tenets of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control, indomitable spirit, and victory) match my own values, and it was terrific to have my son learn about them and see them in action outside our home. Next, I love how flexible the schedules are -- you can find a class any day of the week at a variety of times, so you can make MAA work with any other activities your kids are in. I can't speak highly enough of the program. It's just first-rate.
Went to this place on a limb, cause of the other gym I was going to check out. Randomly stopped by to check this place out, to see if this might be a place I'd wanna go to. They have a very nice selection of weights that they use to condition with, an area for people to put some food or drinks in for before or after they train, and the training area.... The training area is just plain HUGE 7000SQ. FT. of training space. Enough bags for everyone to kick, punch, a tire for you to condition with. Although it's not completely setup as of right now, but will be asap. He had to open earlier then expected. Come check it out, see if you have what it takes.
Okinawan Karate and Kobudo Academy follows a beautiful tradition and teaches one of the most ancient martial arts forms. Sensei Shaun Hansen is dedicated to faithfully handing down Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate. It's great for all ages, for anyone who wants to get in shape and stay in shape, for those interested in learning self-defense and for everyone who appreciates a friendly, supportive environment.
My son has better focus and more responsible. I like that the instructors and programs are really concentrate on the children having fun learning self defense and developing their characters.
Great atmosphere for learning self defense and control. Students develop bonds during and outside of class. Instructors are full of energy and make the classes fun, exciting, and challenging.
She is more confident in herself, shares more freely in school and is a happier child. Learning new techniques, working with the great instructors and meeting new kids.
Instructors are very good with kids balancing right amount of instruction, discipline with fun and humor. Entertaining for parents watching too.
You won't find a better place to lean Karate. All of the instructors are highly skilled and very dedicated to sharing knowledge.
Instructors are very approachable. They work well with the kids, and the kids respond in a positive way.
I like that the staff seem very organized and they are very good with the small kids.
