This place was the only one that took on the challenge of fixing an older (1982) outboard that came with a boat I recently inherited. After another place told me it was only good for parts, they took a look at it, and said it was fixable. After a few hours of use, I was told to come back and have the power heads torqued down. While using it, the engine developed a problem with the tilt mechanism that may or may not have been there when I brought it in the first time.I called up to make the time to bring it in, and they said "Okay, bring it in whenever." My girlfriend and I loaded the outboard in the car, and drove it up. Now I'm not a strong person by any means, but I get by. Between me and my girlfriend, it was an easy lift, When we got there, we were struggling to get it out because of its odd shape and the size of my trunk. The guy (Rich, I believe) noticed us struggling and offered to get it out for us. When he lifted it out, he asked "Who put this in for you?" to which I replied "My girlfriend and I put it in." At this he just laughed at us. At this point we were insulted, but blew it off. When he asked what was wrong with it, we told him, it just needs the heads torqued down, and there's something wrong with the tilt mechanism, that needs to be addressed. He said "Okay, we'll have it for you in a couple of days." It is now a week and a half later. I called yesterday, and they said it would be done tomorrow. "Tomorrow" is here, and it's now "done".I say "done" because when I asked what they did, they said they torqued the power heads down. I asked about the tilt, and they seemed clueless, and said they need to order the part, and should be done "sometime next week." Now with 4th of July weekend 2 days away, that "sometime next week" could mean the middle of July. Why wasn't this taken care of when I brought the thing in? It's one thing if a part supplier was holding things up, but THIS WAS SOMETHING THEY WERE MADE AWARE OF WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN FOR SERVICE. I told them not to bother ordering the part, and that I'd be there today to pick it up. All it is is a rod and a cotter pin, I can fix it myself. The fact that they seem to operate in a general air of confusion, in addition to the way we were treated when we dropped the motor off, leads me to not recommend this place to anyone. The reason they get 2 stars is because they managed to repair my motor the first time, when others said it was impossible.
My experience with this company was very poor. They are very expensive, the wait was very long, and they ended up charging me for problems that did not even exist. My brother is a marine technician and has made this clear to me. Avoid this place of possible. The employees smoke in the shop!
This place is the worst - they charge a lot for sloppy service and will not stand behind their work nor honor their warranty. We have had lots of problem and would never recommend them to anyone.
We went to Lindenhurst Outboard 2 years ago to have our boat repowered and it has been nothing but a headache. The engine started having problems within a few months and we've spent thousands to have it fixed. Our mechanic said it is now basically useless. Lindenhurst Outboard has been extremely difficult to deal with throughout and refused to take any responsibility. Go elsewhere - they are incompetent and dishonest.
These guys are truly great. They are very knowledgable and reasonable priced. I trust them which can't be said for many boat mechanics.
