I have a high index prescription, so when I moved to Lexington, I knew finding an optometrist who (a.) knew what s/he was doing and (b.) wouldn't have me making their boat payments to do it would be a challenge. No one could recommend anyone, so I went with what was close and seemed to have good reviews on the internet.

Big mistake. It has now taken the optometrist three tries to get my contact lenses correct--with crib notes from my previous prescription. My correction is stiff--no doubt--but it's never (in 25 years of contact lenses) taken this many shots at the prize.

Two months later, Simpson still can't offer me a reasonable appointment time. Each time I try to speak with them on the phone, the representative interrupts me and tells me that there's an appointment available at [enter time that does not work with my schedule here]. When I've tried to explain that I have to work, I'm told that the next available appointment is at least two weeks ahead. And they've got my lenses! Which I'm supposed to pay for!

Another fun episode: when I tried to pick out glasses frames, the optician (technician) was supercilious and tried to tack on extra lens coatings which are expensive and don't work without really telling me. When the glasses arrived, he didn't really check the fit--and I wound up in excruciating pain the following week (over a holiday). I will say that the other optician/technician who adjusted the frames later (after I'd had to come back) was FANTASTIC--patient and very friendly.

I don't think anyone there is genuinely rude or incompetent. The place is obviously overbooked and shouldn't be accepting new patients. That's my read. I thought about waiting to post a review until I'd gotten my prescription from them, but I have no way of knowing how far away that may be. From first calling them in mid-October, it has taken THREE months and FIVE visits to sort out two prescriptions. If you have a high index prescription or need your glasses/contacts anytime soon, don't bother with Simpson.

I'll be glad to update/amend this review with positive comments based on what I hope is my last visit.
