        About Search Results

YP - The Real Yellow PagesSM - helps you find the right local businesses to meet your specific needs. Search results are sorted by a combination of factors to give you a set of choices in response to your search criteria. These factors are similar to those you might use to determine which business to select from a local Yellow Pages directory, including proximity to where you are searching, expertise in the specific services or products you need, and comprehensive business information to help evaluate a business's suitability for you. “Preferred” listings, or those with featured website buttons, indicate YP advertisers who directly provide information about their businesses to help consumers make more informed buying decisions. YP advertisers receive higher placement in the default ordering of search results and may appear in sponsored listings on the top, side, or bottom of the search results page.

        Tips & Advice

Do all cars have a diagnostics system?

Yes, most do. All cars and light trucks built in the United States after 1996 are required to be equipped with an on-board diagnostic software system. In an effort to reduce vehicle emissions, the Environmental Protection Agency established new guidelines in emission reduction. While this started in the 1970s, diagnostics rapidly advanced in their capabilities, particularly in maximizing efficiency that resulted in reduced emissions. This efficiency led the EPA to make diagnostic systems mandatory in 1996.

What problems can car diagnostic tools detect?

Diagnostic tools can detect problems in most mechanical areas of your engine, as well as in your transmission, exhaust system (to test carbon output), and your oil and gas tanks.  Diagnostics can also tell you about any engine timing issues, buildup in combustion chambers, coolant temperatures, crank and camshaft positions (as they relate to timing or damage), clogged or faulty fuel injectors, and exhaust output issues.

        What is OBD?

On-board diagnostic system, or OBD, is a software built into all cars after 1996 (and some before). OBD monitors the performance of your car via sensors and ports throughout the car. That data can be analyzed by you, if you have a diagnostic machine at home, or your mechanic. ODB can identify real-time performance issues in your car by taking readings off of the different systems, including engine, transmission, exhaust, and even tire pressure.

How do car diagnostic tools work?

A car’s diagnostic tools work by plugging the scan tool under the dash into the on-board diagnostic systems (OBD) port or connector. Once connected, the scan tool connects to the software. The software details the status of all of the sensors in the system. These sensors can reveal all kinds of information about the state of the car, including timing, ignition, brakes, engine, and transmission. It is like the car’s black box.

        What is car diagnostics?

Car diagnostics is a testing system that connects a machine to your car to test  the engine, transmission, exhaust, ignition system, and all on-board computer systems. It is considered to be an in-depth test to determine the state of your car’s health. Car diagnostics can diagnose any car part that has a readable sensor.

What is a car air filter?

An air filter is used to screen incoming air that enters the intake system, on its way to combine with the fuel to create an air/fuel mixture that is essential to proper performance. Dirt and small debris can wreak havoc on carburetors and clog fuel injectors, creating poor performance. Air filters alleviate this.

        What is tire rotation?

Tire rotation is when you move the wheels on a car to different positions to prevent wear. Usually the front tires are moved to the rear and vice versa, with the new front tires switching sides. The idea is to create even wear on all four tires. It’s nearly impossible to have perfect alignment, and even the slightest change creates a different tire wear. Tires can wear on the inside or outside (the tread), or even in the middle if not properly inflated. Rotation prevents too much wear occurring on one tire and creates a more balanced ride.

        What is radiator fluid?

Radiator fluid is a liquid mixture that is used to cool the engine, prevent freezing, and protect the cooling system from oxidation and degradation. It is a mixture of water and chemicals that prevents freezing and oxidation of the radiator. In cold environments, it prevents the fluid (water) from freezing, which can seriously damage the engine and cooling system. Radiator fluid is cooled in your radiator, and then moves throughout the engine block to cool it. You have to change this out periodically.

        What is brake fluid?

Brake fluid is used to lubricate the car’s braking system t. Over time, this fluid can break down and need changing, but it usually has a long life expectancy. You can easily check it yourself, so consult your manual to get specifics on where it is located and how to check it.

        What is transmission fluid?

Transmission fluid is used to keep your transmission lubricated and cool. It is usually a reddish color and needs to be changed out occasionally for optimum performance. Check the levels yourself or have it checked periodically by a professional.

These guys are GREAT. They got me out of a huge jam and really went out of their way to make sure everything was just right. They made a repeat customer out of me and I don't doubt you'll feel the same. Talk to Phillip over there, he's a really bright and dedicated guy and a real pleasure to deal with. I can't recommend these guys enough, seriously.

STAY AWAYThis people will make up stories, lie and do anything to get money from youOne of my trucks had issues with transmission and i called them to replace speed sensor (wrong diagnostics from my end). when it did not help they asked me to troubleshot and repair truck. They have all tools and programs available. Road service person removed fuses from my Volvo truck, tow in their shop, kept changing unnecessary parts and removing making up hours. Finally they gave up and told me i have to take it to Volvo dealership paid over 1500.00 for tow bill and hours and had to tow to Volvo near by. When Volvo technician diagnose and replace engine management fuse truck started working fine. All they could say "driver removed fuse" and "we do not have diagrams for Volvo". as well as "you can not move truck until bill is paid". Corporate office supports this kind of business so you will not get anywhere if you call them.

Don't take your car here. They perform incompetent and poor work. They let the "new guy" work on brand new cars and cause additional damages such as tool gouges in the interior door panel and removing paint down to the bare metal behind the door panel. Even after four trips to the shop, they still can't get it right and screw it up worse each time. Then when your insurance allows you to take it to another shop to get it done right, They dispute and delay it. As a result, you will be stuck driving a wreck for weeks or month. - as I still am. The shop does crap work, this includes overspray, failure to reconnect multiple electronic components, poor paint work and poor buffing, as well as poor panel alignment. Don't hire this shop to do a color sand/ buff either - your paint will be swirled and show as such in the sun. So much for the abrn endorsement - seems like it was bought and paid for rather then earned.

I have been going to Lee Tires since I had a flat on vacation one year. I have since moved to Lexington KY from Virginia and have been a customer for 9 years it's the only place I trust when it comes to getting tires at a very fair price. The service is quick and if you have your receipt and purchased from them they will fix your flats for free. I recommend them to anyone in Lexington or visiting the area.

        Did You Know?

        Finding An Auto Repair Professional

There are more than 700,000 auto service technicians and mechanics in the U.S. Finding the right one to repair a dent in your car door or fix an engine that won't start can be overwhelming, especially when it's an emergency. Review a few important facts about auto repair professionals and what you can do to get the best possible mechanic working on your vehicle's issues for a fair price.

        Looking For Reliability
Unlike home repair services that evaluate a property, meet with homeowners and have time to prepare before their physical work begins, auto repair businesses are often asked to make fixes on the spot. If you come into a garage with a tire issue, the expectation is the mechanic will know how to correct that problem quickly.

That is why reliability is so vital when searching for a trusted auto repair shop. It may take going to several different mechanics before you find one you are truly comfortable with. Pose questions to this professional to find out what approach they will take to repair your car or what alternatives are available. Shopping around also gives you the best opportunity to find the cheapest rate or the fastest service, as some garages may be backed up with other vehicles that need repair first.

A recommended way to locate a trustworthy auto repair professional is to seek out customer reviews. Online sites offer honest opinions from real customers who have used a business. Read through this feedback to learn how a business operates and what you can expect if you were to take your vehicle there. Look for reviews about how quick maintenance was completed and if prices were fair. By learning what other people have said about a garage, you can gain a better idea if it's the right place to go when you have a car problem in need of fixing.

        Understanding When There's An Issue

It can be difficult to know which automotive problems are serious enough to require expert assistance. A ripped seat cushion or broken radio don't involve safety and will not warrant enough of a problem that going into a garage is required. However, setbacks with brakes, lights and other parts that are vital to the safety of your car's driver and passengers, as well as others on the road, necessitate quick fixes. Many modern automobiles will notify drivers of an issue, in the form of a signal on the dashboard or a noise within the vehicle.

In the event of an accident, even if your vehicle does not appear to have any damage on the outside, it is generally recommended that you see a trusted auto repair professional. Internal damage may have occurred, or an important part may have been knocked out of place. Fixing these issues before driving much further can prevent further vehicle breakdowns in the future. In the case of a serious accident, a body shop can assess the problems and determine the best course of action for repairs, as well as evaluate how much they will cost.

Beyond that, regular checkups are recommended. Tires must be rotated, fluids needs to be replaced and the engine must be evaluated. After driving 25,000 miles, most auto dealers suggest having the vehicle checked out to ensure everything is running smoothly. Taking the car into the auto repair professional you trust will protect you from further problems down the road.

        Doing Your Own Auto Repair

Not every type of auto repair work needs to be done by a certified mechanic. You can fix some of a vehicle's issues just by paying attention to how the automobile is running and having a basic understanding of auto repair. Look over the ways weather may impact your car and what preventative measures you can take to avoid having to take it into the shop. At the same time, be aware of mechanic scams that can impact your experience.

        Preventing Trips To The Professional
Some fixes to your car can be done without paying a specialist. Issues like replacing oil and air filters are relatively simple, with instructions provided in the owner's manual on how to make these changes. The same goes for replacing broken windshield wipers or burnt-out headlights. Such issues should be repaired quickly to guarantee safety, but don't require a visit to a garage. By handling these types of tasks on your own, you'll gain a better understanding for how your car operates and save time and money.

Along with understanding how to fix manageable vehicle issues that may arise, taking preventative measures to avoid future problems is a valuable time saver. Many problem-solving best practices are related to the seasons. Your vehicle will be in different conditions in the winter than in the summer, meaning it requires a different type of preparation.

In the spring and summer, you want to be sure your air conditioner and cooling systems work correctly. Given the high temperatures the vehicle will be exposed to, overheating is a common problem. Look over the system by ensuring there is enough coolant available. If it needs to be refilled, it is best to open the hood and add more to the car before it gets too warm out. Also, clean out fan ducts and other ventilation sources necessary for summertime driving.

For winter driving, features such as the defroster, heater and exhaust system are paramount. Look in your owner's manual for specific directions on how features should be checked and repaired. Many newer cars have a cabin air filter that can be replaced when needed, allowing warm air to continue to flow in. Also, check your tires before winter driving, as they need to be at the proper pressure to perform well on snow and ice.

        Avoiding Scams
There is a common worry among many people that auto repair professionals take advantage of the general public. Because so many people are unaware of how to fix the problems in their vehicle, they are nervous of being overcharged by mechanics or worried that the improper work is being done.

While the great majority of professionals in the industry are honest, hard-working people, a few bad apples can ruin everything. You should be extra careful when first visiting a mechanic to guarantee that the price you're charged and maintenance the vehicle receives are fair.

Among the common scams pulled are needless repairs, where a garage charges you for work that isn't necessary. Another popular one is attracting customers through a cheap oil change or tire pressure check. Then, when you are in the shop and your car is being repaired, they give you a long list of other corrections they'd like to make, therefore boosting the total cost of your bill.

The best way to combat these types of problems is getting a written estimate before work is done. That way, you can see how much repairs are expected to cost. If the final bill is higher than the estimate projected, ask to specifically see the work. Make sure information is put in writing as well. If a problem remains, you can have proof that work was not done to your satisfaction.

By working closely with an auto repair professional and doing some of the tune-up work on your own, you will be less likely to fall for these scams. At the same time, you'll be able to drive out with a clean and healthy vehicle, thanks to the repairs made by a trained professional.
