With a name that belies its true purpose, Rural Telephone Service offers a variety of high-tech telecommunications services to customers throughout northwestern Kansas. Its services and products include local telephone service, cable television and dialup and high-speed Internet. The company also operates two subsidiaries: Nex-Tech and Nex-Tech Directory. Nex-Tech handles hardware and equipment sales, leasing and service, as well as data connections, telephone systems, fax machines, voicemail and wide-area paging systems. Nex-Tech Directory is the official directory of Rural Telephone Service. As such, it provides the white page listings, yellow page listings and advertising information that appears in more than 50,000 locally distributed directories. Rural Telephone Service was established in 1951. It now has headquarters in Lenora, Kan., and serves nearly 30 telephone exchanges representing more than 12,000 access lines.
