Expertise
Professionalism

I’ve been a long time customer of Dr. Johnson’s but his practice has been going down hill for a number of years now, perhaps grew too big for what the office can manage. You definitely don’t get the personalized care they once offered. Each annual visit, there are different doctors working, which provides no consistency year to year especially if your dog has on-going issues. Their support staff do not call back or explain $200+ test results (until you complain and get an actual vet on the phone and then they send you a copy of the lab results). More recently in the past month we’ve seen two different “relief” vets that have been working there temporarily who do not know this practice’s operations very well. Dr. Whistler in particular had very rude bedside manners, didn’t introduce herself, and asked me to step away from my dog during a routine wellness exam for fear my dog may bite me. Seriously?! When I politely responded she wouldn’t bite me, Dr. Whistler again got confrontational and then I backed off. The wellness exam wasn’t even complete (took 5 minutes) and a temperature wasn’t even taken! Their vet techs do not appear to be very confidant. The most recent one couldn’t find my dogs vein for a simple heart worm blood work after 3-4 attempts, which then I politely declined that service for this visit. Dr. Whistler’s recommendation? “We can take your dog in back where we will stick her in the neck.” No, you will not my “sticking” my dog in her neck. BUT, I will be taking my dog to another practice moving forward.

Overall
I drive 50 mi each way.

I haven't found a better couple of vets than Dr's Johnson and Shiffo, and I feel it's every bit worth the drive. These doctors treat dogs by breed specifics and the individuality of each dog,or cat, exc. They do not adhere to the rules that the same thing must be done to all animals the exact same way, just because they're dogs or cats. Each breed has its own specific needs, and they treat them as such. They are not generic, but very compassionate and very individualistic to each animal and owners needs.
