We made an 11:00 AM appointment for a motor vehicle inspection. Upon arrival we were told that it would be 2 hours before they could even begin work on our vehicle. (Why make appointments if you cannot honor them?!)



We were also told that the vehicle would not pass inspection without front brake pads. Since I am a retired ASE Gold Certified Automotive Tech, I took the car home and did the brakes myself. The pads were listed on the invoice as being at 2/32nds thickness and therefore requiring replacement by law in order to pass inspection. When I measured them, they were nearly 6/32nds of an inch at the thinnest spot. I demonstrated this to the manager with a digital caliper when we returned for the sticker the following day with the old pads in a box. They also tried to upsell us into un-needed Brake Rotors. I did not measure the caliper thickness, but they were certainly nowhere nearly worn enough to warrant replacement, even if turned.



While I chose to replace the brake pads, we should NOT have been denied an inspection sticker and been forced to drive over 30 miles each way to return for that inspection sticker the following day. Neither my partner nor I will be returning to NTB. I'll be rating the company online and advising my friends, co-workers and associates of our experience. Companies that attempt to take advantage of consumers who they assume are not knowledgeable about automotive repairs are reprehensible and should not be in business.
