Traveled back to Lake Placid again because I needed a Hojo's fix. Everything was just the same after three years, which was fine with me. Three days of breakfast and dinner was a treat. Howard Johnson's specialty was and still is their breakfast. The menu is big, with many unusual items. I had raisin bread French toast, which was fantastic. My partner had the Hojo classic; large English muffin cover with a thick layer of corned beef, a fried egg, and topped with cheese. Delicious! Your toast always comes buttered, saving what is sometimes an aggravating step. Their fresh fruit cup is one of the best that I have ever had. They still have the breakfast bar, but only on Sundays. The Food Bar is open for dinner and was fine. We both made nice salads and they have a good selection of toppings. There is also a selection of hot food on the bar. The dinner menu is also extensive. I had to have the fried clams, which were even better that I had remembered! The next dinner was Friday evening, so of course it was Fish Fry night. Yummy. There are many deserts, and I highly recommend the carrot cake. The have fresh pies and local organic ice cream, which was delicious. The service was excellent. The waitress were friendly and checked on you often. Mr. Butler is the nicest guy and certainly knows how to manage a restaurant. This restaurant is all about comfort food, and is not the place to go if you are on a diet or are a picky eater. But for the rest of us, it is just fine.

I'm laughing as I write this because, believe it or not, we had a very decent experience here. Our party of four (2 adults and 2 kids) stopped by for lunch on saturday, the day before Easter. Not much else is open in the area this time of year so.... Hojos won. We were seated fairly quickly, and the older lady waitress was very sweet and patient. The food was actually good! We didn't get anything too difficult: I got a dill chicken sandwich- the chicken had been seasoned nicely and cooked on a grill, served with lettuce, tomato and onion on a yummy bun, with pretty decent fries and a dill mayo. He got a steak and mushroom hero, which was equally yummy. The picky kid didn't get anything but the French fries were apparently up to snuff because she ate off of everyone's plate. The other kid got a cheeseburger and it was much better than the weird meat she got the previous night at the wilderness inn. So, although we didn't order anything very inventive, I would say it was good enough that we would return.
My now husband and I started going to HOJO's in Lake Placid when we were college students on a budget, we loved it then. So on a recent trip through the are we stoped as a family on a budget, its nice to know somethings stay the same.....the food was good, comfortable restaurant, very kid friendly and they still give you a pot of coffee!!!! The best part was the staff, so warm and friendly, felt more like we were at a family member's home than a restaurant! Our waitress was FANTASTIC, very upset we didn't get her name because she deserves a big shout out! The woman doing the food bar was so helpfull, and even the other waitresses were politely and accommodating! Thank you for a wonderful meal with a great experience! We will be back....hopefully it wont won't be 9 years this time!
By far the best hotel experience I have ever had! We traveled to Lake Placid in Mid December 2013 and were more than pleased with our stay. The hotel lobby was wonderfully designed keeping with the Adirondack vibe. Giving that it was Christmas time, the lobby was also beautifully decorated for the holiday season. There is a beautiful fireplace inside with a firepit outside as well. The rooms were clean and spacious and the bed was comfortable (what else can you ask for). The breakfast buffet was better than average and provided a variety of options including hot and cold foods. Also 24 access to fresh brewed coffee or hot water for hot chocolate was also a plus. I would highly recommend this hotel and the morning view overlooking Mirror Lake and the mountains is stunning.
We have been to the Lake Placid HoJo's many times over the years and it is always good. The fried clams are great and a HoJo's classic. Every time we have had the food bar, the food that is supposed to be hot is hot (not lukewarm!) and the cold food is cold. The French Toast on the breakfast bar is hot! That is hard to do. They seems to be constantly checking it and removing old food and bringing out new. HoJo's is also fully licensed so you can enjoy an adult beverage with dinner while the kids enjoy the ice cream desserts.
Good American food and very good prices. Ate there twice and both times the food was great as was the friendly staff. The beef buffet was fantastic with plenty of very tender beef chunks and lots of delicious sides. The apple pie was the best we've had in years. I bit old fashioned but the best dollar value in town.
Nice family meal at a great price. Value as I used to remember. This place took me back 40 years and was a highlight of our trip to Lake Placid! Great hiking trails to lake placid right in the back of the HoJo parking lot! Go visit this place ASAP and take the whole family!
Simple diner food, wonderful atmosphere, breakfast spot for early morning hikers. Locals get together here for breakfast and you can listen to them talk, which is cool and entertaining. Menu consists of diner classics. Clean place, nice staff, good food.
After looking at dinner menu's in the Lake Placid area of $16 to $30, Howard Johnson's was a refreshing value, good burgers, extensive menu, recommended meal for under $13! Friendly staff. Local beer varieties too!
Went here for the breakfast buffet. Numerous foods included. For the price, this place is a great deal. Waitresses are very attentive. Definitely would say this is the place to stop for a good/cheap meal.
