General Info
Texas Dow Employees Credit Union was chartered in 1954 and began operations in January 1955 out of a file cabinet drawer at the Franklin Insurance Agency. After one year of operations, TDECU had nearly 700 members and more than $34,000 in assets. As a nonprofit financial cooperative, TDECU is owned and operated by its members. The nonprofit status allows the credit union to return all earnings, beyond operating expenses and reserve requirements, to its members in the form of higher dividends on deposit accounts, lower interest rates on loans and competitive products and services. TDECU is one of the largest locally owned financial institution along the Texas Gulf Coast with assets nearly $900 million and more than 85,000 member-owners. The firm serves the employees and retirees of Dow Chemical Company Texas Operations and many other area companies, as well as the family members of employees and retirees.

Ive had an account with TDECU for over 20 years. Years ago they were harder to deal with but I have recently switched 90% of my business to them due to their great service. Ive had personal and auto loans the last couple of years and had no issues. This year our non-profit switched to TDECU due to the ease of access and setup.
Its even easier now that they are growing branches. Thanks

Financed a vehicle with TDECU in 11/14 and have been given nothing but misinformation and very poor customer service. This company is not flexible and the information given from one representative to the next is inconsistant. They are NOT customer friendly and have done nothing to help remedy a mistake made by the dealer. Unfortunately for me the car is too new to refinance with another lender and this will have to wait for another few months. This account WILL be moved just as soon as I am able. I would not suggest doing business with this credit union.

This week I went to my Whitney branch because I had received a letter that the Texas Dow Employee Credit Union would be taking over my account 11/09 (today). I am not a Dow employee, had never heard of this credit union and wished to keep the bank i had chosen because I frequently visit Louisiana where Whitney has its headquarters. Although it was days before the 9th, I was told it was "too late" to keep my Whitney account but that I could open another account (with all the accompanying hassles that entails with direct deposits/credits). I transferred my checking and a loan that I had with Whitney. Now the TDECU claims it holds the loan which I must pay off in order not to be their "member". Although this will be a financial hardship right now I will take this route rather than to be in any way, shape or manner associated with this strong-arming institution!

Take your money and run

Do not trust these people! Over the weekend my TDECU account was cleaned out fraudulently. Some criminal hacked my personal information and used it to drain my account. I fully expected TDECU to reimburse my money and ask for my assistance in pursuing legal action against this criminal. However, all I received after an hour talking to a supervisor was a "tough loss man" attitude. Due to a TDECU policy, I was informed that the only way to recover my money was to pursue legal action against this criminal who cleaned me out. Great. So I am supposed to file a police report in Texas, coordinate with investigators in NYC where the fraudulent action took place, get a subpoena for surveillance tapes and identify the subject, take him to court and hope he has money to pay me back. Yeah that sounds reasonable. I know many people who have been in similar situations and their banks reimbursed their accounts within hours. If you want to protect your hard earned money, do not trust this bank. You've been warned!!

TDECU prides its self on customer service. When the extra insurance is added to a loan, it is because the member did not maintain his/her private auto/homeowners insurance. To have the added insurance cost removed, all that needs to be done is show proof of insurance.

I have been banking with TDECU for about 4 years. They are the rudest people I have ever met. It seems like everytime I call and have a question or a problem they treat me like I am about 1" tall and as dumb as a box of rocks. I just get so frustrated and upset. Dont let your insurance lapse if it does they have there own insuranse department and its so convient for them they charge $3900 for a year of coverage that is insane. Now tell me there not getting a kick back!! Just please think long and hard before you decide to bank with them.
