In July 2014, our boy beagle stopped eating suddenly. It was a Friday night, and our regular vet had already closed for the weekend. I called early Saturday morning and they got him in right away. Even though we were not regular patients, they treated us with the upmost care. After a thorough examination, Dr. Benson had to deliver the news that our beloved beagle was dying of lymphoma. He was so kind and compassionate. He was very thorough explaining the diagnosis. Unfortunately the disease had gone on too long unnoticed. He passed away a week later. I will never forget the love and care they showed us. Not only our dog, but us as well.

Overall

My experience with Ancare has been horrible. I am new to the area, and needed a vet. I chose Ancare. My 12 year old cat has had allergy problems his whole life, and for the last 3 or so years he has been on medicine to control the excessive itching.

I took him to Ancare for an unrelated matter (he ate a houseplant that caused him some issues...). During the exam, I told them of his allergy/medicine history, and the Dr. convinced me that I had to get some not at all cheap blood work done to make sure the medicine wasn't causing problems with his kidneys/liver/etc... She also told me that since I came with very complete vet records, they would scan them all into their system - the vet tech walked out of the office with my folder in her hand saying she would be back in a few minutes after scanning the records. And finally, I asked if refilling his prescription would be an issue when I needed it - she responded that since she has examined him, as long as the blood work came back good, there would be no issue - I would just have to call and they would fill the prescription.

A month later, I called to get the prescription filled. The Dr. had made no notation whatsoever about the medicine. She refused to refill it, because she had no recollection or records of him being on the medicine. I asked them to look at the scanned records, and I was told that none of the records from my previous vet were scanned into their system. The part that really ticked me off - I had paid for blood tests (that were NOT cheap) because of the medicine - when I pointed out that the blood tests were done for no reason other than to test for issues from the medicine, they had no idea what I was talking about. I even brought the prescription from my old vet (700 miles away). They refused to budge.

I had to make another appointment to have the cat examined again (a mere month after the first exam, despite having blood work done because of the medicine the first time) before they would give me the medicine. Even after examining him (a different vet this time...) and agreeing that he needed the medicine, they still insisted on having my old vet fax the records to them (the same ones they should have scanned in the first place...) before they could figure out what to give him - and keep in mind I had brought them the actual prescription package with all of the information on it.

Once they got the information, they didn't have the pills. They couldn't get them for whatever reason. They had a pharmacist compound the pills. A prescription that for the last 3 years has cost me between $10 and $15 dollars for 60 pills cost me $71!!. I had no choice but to pay it, because between the time I first called for a refill and the time I was told my prescription was ready, almost 3 full weeks had passed, and my poor cat was a fur-less red itchy mess.

Aside from them killing or losing my cat, this experience couldn't have been any worse.

I wont be going back to Ancare.
