- It all started in 1926… Our commitment to industry leadership began in 1926, when two ambitious men, Jim Wills and Harold Swann, acquired the La Plata Oil Company and Mechanicsville Oil Company. The two companies merged, to form Southern Maryland Oil (SMO). In the early days, SMO handled only three products: kerosene, gasoline, and motor oil. In 1937, with the invention of the gun type burner, fuel oil became a hot commodity and created an ever-increasing market for home heating. SMO began deliveries on an automatic basis – the first such service available to clients in southern Maryland.

I had a great experience with this company, been a customer for over a decade now! They have multiple delivery option and services that makes it easy to do business with them.
While using automatic delivery with SMO, I have run out of heating oil TWICE in the less than 5 years I've been with them. This is my last winter I'm dealing with that kind of sloppiness.
Every time I order oil from this company it seems as if the oil runs out a little quicker than normal. Which has not been such a big deal. But the last straw is when I called and purchased oil while being out of the country, to come home to an ice freezing cold home. When I called the company they said yes my card was charged but have no idea why no one ever came. I had to go back and forth sigh them to have some one come out that night. This was unacceptable.
Ordered 130 gallons of fuel oil from this site and got the delivery the same day! Great Service!
My heat pump broke. The service guy said the compressor was dead. Bobby came out the same day to give me an estimate for a new Trame heat pump. They installed a new Trane heat pump on Friday and I was warm for the weekend.
I ordered oil from the internet site on Monday night and they called me to comfirm my delivery location on Tuesday. The oil was in my tank Wednesday morning!
I am extremely pleased with the "Sales" personnel at Besche. They treated us very well, did not pressure us, and helped us to get a unit most useful to our house.
