Kitchen Remodeling
Curved Analine dyed cabinetry of fingured maple is used in the kitchen, master bath and bar area. An artist from Los Angeles was used to create the unique glass design in the master shower and front door. The entire home is heated with radiant floor heat and the home has a computer controlled lighting system throughout.

An elevator travels from the lower parking area up to the residence that is appointed with pleated stainless steel panels and stone flooring per interior designers drawings.
Door Installation/Replacement
These are just two of the dozens of details in the house that were researched and reproduced using our primary goal of being faithful to the original house. Other examples were the handmade roof tiles, vintage lumber used in the truss work in the ceilings in the new buildings, the custom made windows and doors, the hand forced iron work and the techniques used to install the interior plaster and exterior stucco.
Drywalls
To match this curve including the cabinets, baseboards, soffits, drywall and drywall reveal reglets and even the curved copper gutters.
Tile Installation
The ceramic tile work, designed and produced by Richard Thomas Keit Studios in Otay, was made and installed to authentically replicate the work done in the 1920’s. This tile is used extensively throughout the project in the fountains, stair risers, swimming pool, bathrooms, and countertop backsplashes.
Fireplaces
The home is designed around a central “Great Room” which includes the living and dining room as well as the kitchen and has as its focal point a massive river rock fireplace. The rocks for the fireplace were hand selected from the Snake River of Idaho by Al Pointer, an artisan/mason. The living room ceiling is rough sawn fir, T&G Lumber above a lattice grid of fir timbers which was antique finished to give the impression of age.

Thomas J. Taylor Construction coordinated and supervised the entire project from demolition of the existing house to installation of landscaping.

Thomas J. Taylor Construction, Inc. managed the project from grading the home, barn and arena, construction and landscaping.
Gate Replacement/Installation
Retaining Walls
The house is built around a core stairway with many of the rooms radiating off of it. The lowest level of the stairway is actually built into the hillside utilizing curved retaining walls. The stairway itself is a combination of oak treads and hand painted ceramic tile risers.

Window Installation/Replacement
The door and window hardware in the existing house was designed by Lillian Rice and specifically made for the house in the 1920’s. Recreating this hardware created a unique challenge for the construction team. Examples of every different type of hardware were removed from the existing house and molds were made of them at a local foundry. Each piece was then cast in bronze and plated in satin nickel. This involved literally thousands of pieces, including even the screws, but this finished detail adds a tremendous amount of authenticity to the finished product.

The owner was involved on a daily basis with Thomas J. Taylor Construction on design decisions as varied as tile, plumbing and light fixtures to the copper corner terminations of the siding.
Residential Roof Repair
The main level of the house, a single curved ceiling space, provides space for the living, dining, kitchen, and master bedroom and bath. The ceiling and roof system are accomplished by curved glue laminated beams for the structure with T & G stained pine infilled between for the ceiling material. The roofing system is a standing seam pre-finished metal following the radius of the roof.
