The section we stayed in was old and outdated. The AC didn't work the first 2 nights, the third night they fixed it and it was rattling so loud, we couldn't sleep. The next night it was fixed. I was told there was a "newer" section. It's best to ask for the new section. The old section is in poor condition. The pool and the work out rooms were nice.

This place was awful, customer service was rude and uncaring, the villa was runned down and basically a crap hole. the screens on the screen porch were torn, the air did not cool the place, it had a weird smell, the master shower floor was slimy and the hot tub faucet was falling off. There were roach bates under the bed in the second bedroom, the overall room was terrible. The staff were rude and pretended not to understand you if they did not want to answer a question, if you called they placed you on hold for 20 or more minutes and then would eventually hang up. The so called resort manager was as useless as tits on a bull. He in all honesty has no idea on how to be a manager. He lets staff walk all over customers, and some of the male staff are rude and swear in front of children. The discriminate against handicapped people and show no care in the world if you need any type of assistance. The place is a joke. DO NOT STAY THERE
Place was a dump roach motel. Who ever is in charge of the resort and maintenance needs to find a new line of work. Maintenance guy was high strung and drinking while doing repairs. The manager? Bj, said she was unable to do anything. Told my kids to mind their own business and tried to make my 6 yr old pay for toilet paper which was never supplied. In addition, everything broke from the air to the stove. Again, bj told my wife she would have to sweat it out do to understaffing. Again, saw maintenance hiding inside behind dumpsters and making shady dealings with neighboring dealers. Do not come here.
I have stayed at Calypso Cay many times and have had nothing but good things to say about them from their staff (very courteous and helpful) to the accommodations. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. The pool area was great with the Tiki Bar that served drinks and some really good food. (nothing elaborate)
Staff and service have declined over past three years. Our latest stay was a complete nightmare. Their treatment of our disabled veteran was a disgrace. It took 8 contacts by phone and 1 in person to get an ADA compliant room. As they have no ADA rooms that sleep more than 2 people their ADA compliance representative assured us that we could get a rollaway free of charge. I called 6 days prior to our stay to assure that everything was in order. The room was correct but that was all. No rollaway, no call, could not speak to manager on duty on the phone. I went to talk to him in person and he was not the Star employee that supposedly works at the Gaylord. He was an arrogant, excuse making man with little customer service or leadership skills. We get 100 times better ADA services at hotels half the price of the Gaylord. Thanks for adding so much stress to our family's graduation celebration. Goodbye Gaylord Palms it was not nice visiting you.
HORRIBLE STAFF when I first checked in at 3pm they said my room was not ready I came back later that night they lady that gave me my room keys told us are room is on the first floor my my wife and 3 kids and the baby was asleep walked around for 15 minutes looking and couldn't find are room nobody would help when finally after going up and down they said are room Is on the 8th floor when. We got in the room it was very old outdated which when I made my reservation they said they was going to put me in the new updated building I complained and they move me to another room which took 30 minutes for them to do and 1 hour and a half to bring are luggage when we opened the pull out sofa the mattress was so dirty when housekeeping came to look he couldn't believe how dirty it was even are tour guide Austin couldn't believe how dirty it was we tried talking to a manager but he or she would not get on the phone very poor customer service they kept giving us the run around DON'T STAY HERE
The resort itself when you check in is nice, but our room was across the street in the "slums". It's like walking into a Red Roof Inn (although I've stayed in Red Roof Inns with a better experience than this room). The door separating our room from the kitchen of the other guest next to us was so cheap that when sitting on our bed, you can see their feet when they walk past the door from the huge gap underneath and every conversation they had in normal voices, we could hear (with our tv on). I'm pretty sure they could even hear us pee (since there was also a joining door from our bathroom to one of their rooms. They also make you pay a resort fee..... And they don't even have housekeeping that comes in and cleans and gives you fresh towels each day! When I called to get towels so I could shower, the lady made it sound like it was a privilege for us to get clean towels! She stated that housekeeping was extra, but as a courtesy, towels and linens were free. I'd look elsewhere!
About two hours after check-in, we noticed that the AC wasn't cooling and I went down to the front desk to report it around 3:00, we also told the front desk that we only had two towels for a room for four. The clerk told me that he would put a ticket in for the AC, he also said that all we got was two towels, that we were supposed to bring our own and that the paper we signed when we checked-in said all of that. I asked him to show me where it said that and he pulled the check-in papers, but of course, that wasn't there. He said that he would give me two towels if he had the key for the housekeeping closet, but he didn't have it. As I was going back to my room, I saw a lady pushing a housekeeping cart and I went back in to see the clerk to ask him if she could give us two towels, he asked her, and she said that she only had enough towels for one room and she didn't have the key for the housekeeping closet. At 4:40 I called the front desk to ask about the AC, and I was told that the maintenance guy leaves at 5:00. When I pointed out that it was 4:40, he said that he had to leave for an emergency and that we had to live with the broken AC until the next morning. When I said that that was unacceptable, he gave me the manager's emergency number. I called twelve times over the next three hours, leaving a message every time, but never got the courtesy of a return phone call, not even in the two weeks since. I also sent an email to the general manager copying the manager who I had been calling but also never got the courtesy of a return phone call or email. We had to run out and find another hotel room on the weekend of Disney's Food and Wine Festival and of Halloween Horror Nights, which took up almost six hours of our one night stay. Luckily we found a room with working AC and plenty of towels for about the same price. Do yourself a favor, stay away from these clowns, for the same amount of money you can stay in a place where they do value their customers and they understand people's expectations when they travel. We spoke with our friends who had three other rooms and they had plenty of towels. We understand that problems and mistakes will happen, it's how we manage them that counts, and these people do not care about their customers or taking care of their mistakes.
Terrible customer service!! We called to have arrangements earlier, everyone was "in a meeting" all morning. We had an emergency in which we needed to reschedule (emergency room type of emergency) and they would not give us a refund. In fact, Groupon called them to request a refund and they denied it. Omar does not seem to understand that he had the power to allow Groupon to refund us at its own discretion (which they were willing to do), or maybe that tiny bit of power went too far to his head, but for whatever reason he denied Groupon's request to allow a refund & we are now out $75 on top of a trip to emergency room. THANKS BAREFOOT SUITES.
The on site restaurant Villa de Flor is exceptional! Had Thanksgiving their with my family last year. It's a bit pricey but well worth it!
