Psoriasis is a common, chronic skin disorder that can begin at any age and appears on the body as raised red skin patches with silvery scales. It is classified as a type of hereditary autoimmune disease that can be triggered by stress and rubbing of the areas but is not contagious. There are different types of psoriasis: guttate, vulgaris (also called plaque psoriasis), pustular, inverse, erythrodermic and psoriatic arthritis.
Cryotherapy
Warts are harmless and usually disappear on their own but can spread easily from one person to another or from one body-part to another. Multiple treatments to remove warts are available at our Orlando dermatology practice. These include Canthacur (a blister-causing solution), cryotherapy (freezing), electrosurgery and curettage (burning and scraping) or excision (cutting the wart off). Additional treatments for resistant warts include laser treatments, chemical peels and immunotherapy.

Immunizations

Cyst
Eczema
Eczema is commonly known as atopic dermatitis, but can also be split into types called nummular eczema and dyshidrotic eczema. Atopic dermatitis often begins in infancy or childhood and causes severe itching along with a red, patchy, dry rash. Nummular eczema typically appears in a round pattern, and dyshidrotic eczema usually begins with small water blisters on the hands and feet.
Fungus
An infection with nail fungus can affect one or more fingernails or toenails and may begin with a white or yellow spot. The cause often is a fungus called a dermatophyte, but could also be a yeast or mold. These organisms thrive in warm, moist places such as showers or swimming pools and invade the body through small cuts or separations in the nail bed.
Lesions
Medications, genetics, pregnancy and environmental factors are common contributors to vascular and pigmented skin conditions. Our providers are using the next generation of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to safely and effectively treat benign skin lesions. A non-invasive AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technology) light is specifically targeted at problematic areas to minimize any damage to healthy tissue surrounding the lesion being treated.
Chemical Peels
Unlike progressive, light to medium grade peels, such as glycolic, salicylic acid and Jessner's peels, TCA peels can penetrate deeper into the skin. TCA's dexterity for treating a wide range of skin conditions makes it the perfect chemical peel for individuals with multiple concerns. This peel is recommended for most skin types, particularly normal to oily skin. Sensitive skin should progress to higher product potency over time. TCA is considered a more aggressive treatment for improving acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles and uneven skin tone (hyperpigmentation) while increasing collagen and elastin production.
Skin Care
The diagnosis of rosacea is based upon clinical exam and history of symptoms. There are certain triggers for rosacea that can cause flare-ups. Following a skin care program prescribed by our specialists and learning individual triggers can help to reduce these flares. Common triggers stress, alcohol, spicy foods and certain skin lotions and medications. Sunny, windy, cold and hot weather can be a trigger, too.
Psoriasis
Psoriasis diagnosis is generally based on clinical examination, but a skin biopsy can also be performed at our office for confirmation. Psoriasis is classified as mild, moderate or severe depending upon the body areas where it appears and the amount of distress it causes the patient. Treatment is dependent on type and degree of psoriasis and includes topical treatments (creams and ointments), phototherapy (controlled prescribed sunlight in the office) and systemic agents (tablets such as immunosuppressants and biologic or antibody injections).

Allergies
There is no cure for eczema, but it can be controlled with treatment. Allergy testing may be necessary if there are other conditions present such as hay fever, asthma or food insensitivities. Family genes may play a role in eczema but it is not contagious.
