Overall

I read the last two comments and had to say something. Normally I don't say anything and only review products I buy. I have been shopping at brier for 30 years and have never once been treated badly. I used to buy fish when I was younger and I always got healthy fish. I was always taken care of when I needed the help. The store may be in rough shape but it is understandable, people get busy at times. As far as the off brands well I guess the only thing I can say is that when I needed a replacement filter , brier was always the place to go. Discontinued parts or not. I haven't shopped there recently but I do know that if I decided to get anything pet related that is where I will be taking my business.

Very knowledgeable if you ask a family run spot who will recognize you and even remember what animals you own unlike a corporate store. The fish tanks are kept basic to get the best view of the fish I like this spot.

Overall

Terrible experience. Maybe it was an off day... Or month... I'm accustomed to small local pet stores but this was the worst I've ever been in.

It was really disorganized with cat and dog food mixed and all over the store. The brands are at least lumped together.

I was almost horrified at the condition of the fish tanks. I expect to see some sick fish and water spots but it doesn't look like anyone has bothered to even wipe down the glass with a damp paper towel in the past year; let alone anything close to maintenance or even creation of aquatic environments. Fish go beyond just the proper water conditions, at the very least some substrate would be nicer to look at and less stressful for the fish.

First star is for existing, it's a tough competition with Petsmart. Second star is for the rarer selection of brands and items they have. I've never seen so many bulk generic brand filters available outside the Internet.

They do have a wide variety of fish, fresh and salt water. I had read such good reviews of the fish on many yellow book sites. The fish are fine, the environment was appalling. The owners should perhaps take a trip to Eddie's up near Albany to learn to take care of their tanks.

The prices of items are typical of small business local pet stores.

Even disregarding the condition of the store, the man who "helped" me was EXTREMELY rude. He spoke to me as if I were an obnoxious child. I didn't even bother asking for the product I was looking for he was so off-putting and rude.

It's sad but it's a far better experience to go pretty much anywhere else.
