Eyelid Surgery

Lesions
Everyone has skin lesions or moles that occur naturally or as a result of sun exposure or diseases. In some cases, unfortunately, these lesions are malignant (cancerous), but more often they are benign. In either case, Dr. Pastrick has extensive experience in diagnosing the various types of lesions and can treat you effectively. Surgical excision is imperative for malignant lesions, but benign lesions do not have to be removed for any medical reason. Cosmetic surgical excision under local anesthesia, however, is a great option for those with benign lesions who simply do not like the appearance of their lesion due to location, size, or color. When performed by a skilled plastic surgeon, rather than a dermatologist or family practitioner, the scar can be minimized and the result very rewarding. Some benign lesions can be removed without surgery using lasers or even creams.
Chemical Peels
A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing procedure used to decrease facial wrinkles and dyschromia (brown spots) while improving skin texture and overall quality. By painting certain “chemicals” on the skin of the face or other areas, the damaged surface layers of the skin are removed and the underlying collagen is stimulated. Over a few days the body heals a new, refreshed, undamaged layer of surface skin over the now tighter collagen layer of deeper skin thus revitalizing the appearance of the skin. Various chemicals are available, but the most common one used at The Plastic Surgery Center is TCA, or trichloroacetic acid. The short procedure does not require any anesthesia, but there are a few days of recovery time to heal the new skin.

General Surgery
Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, he holds a B.S. degree in molecular biology from Vanderbilt University and received his M.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB). Brown University accepted him as their top choice for their six-year training program in general surgery and plastic surgery, which he successfully completed in 1999. He received additional specialty training in plastic surgery at Harvard University and the University of Miami with internationally renowned plastic surgeons.
Otolaryngology
Also be aware that a “facial plastic surgeon” is usually certified in otolaryngology and otherwise known as an Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor. They are not true face and body plastic surgeons and are not certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. In some cases “cosmetic surgeons” are actually Ear, Nose, and Throat doctors who have no formal training in cosmetic surgery.
Reconstructive Surgery
Dr. Pastrick is a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Quillen College of Medicine at East Tennessee State University (ETSU) where he participates in the teaching of surgery residents on complex reconstructive surgery cases. He holds active staff privileges in plastic surgery at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Indian Path Medical Center, Johnson City Medical Center, Bristol Regional Medical Center, Holston Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center, Kingsport Day Surgery Center. He performs all his cosmetic surgeries in the privacy and comfort of his office in his state-certified Office Based Surgery Center, the only such center in Northeast Tennessee. He currently holds a state medical license in Tennessee.
