The food here is ok given the hype. Dessert should be skipped. Not worth it. Bland, unappetizing and the crust is very tough. Can be very difficult to get a table for sunday brunch. However, have to wonder when baseball caps replaced hair nets for food safety.
The dinner was ok just ok. About the same as any other small eatery. DO NOT expect to use any change from Their Issued Gift Certificate as a tip for the waitress. You can only use the difference for more of their ok food. I think if a business takes your cash to purchase their certificate it should be honored the same as the cash they received up front. NOT SOME SILLY RULE with limits

We visited the Blue Owl on a Saturday afternoon. Our party of 2 had to wait for about 15 minutes, which was fine. We expected that after finding out that Kimmswick really doesn't have many places to eat and all the hype from Food Network visit. We were GREATLY disappointed. We had the Saturday special, which was a Chicken Fried Steak, veggies, mashed potatoes, and bread, and a salad. The salad was unusual (pineapple coleslaw). The main plate was dismal. The chicken fried steak was ok but small (compared to other St. Louis area restaurants), the grean beans were out of a can with a bit of fried bacon, but the worst was the INSTANT mashed potatoes!!! Instant mashed potatoes at a County restaurant!! The biscuits were so dry you had to choke them down with your drink. The gravy on the chicken fried steak was the best part of the meal. The daily special never changes (according to the menu) and yet the price wasn't listed. We didn't expect to pay $11.50 ! Even the dessert was disappointing. We ordered two different pies. Their ""famous high piled apple pie"" was tough crusted with only half of the pie being filled with apples. The strawberry rhurbarb had a pasty doughy crust. For an establishment with as much built up and having 75 staff, they need to start over. Very disappointed in the quality, flavor of the food, and value for money. I felt it was nothing more than a tourist trap given the limited options otherwise to eat in the town. I'd eat somewhere in St. Louis then visit Kimmswick.

We recently had lunch at the Blue Owl and can't say enough about it. The 15 minutes we had to wait to be seated at a table was well worth it. The food was delicious, well presented and not overly heavy. Dessert was indescribable! And, the service was warm and friendly. We are planning a trip bacvk real soon.

A few weeks ago we experienced the Blue Owl for lunch. We'd heard so many good things about the food only to be disappointed in the quality and flavor of the food. Even the dessert was disappointing. We ordered two different pies. Both were previously frozen. Very bland and pasty. We will not drive the Kimmswick again.
