Do not, I mean do not take your car here!!!! My car was there for a month and they kept telling me that they were going to fix it and they never did! They told me that they had been calling me and could not get through. So when I called them I had them try the number to make sure it worked and it did. They then told me that they were going to order a part and call me when it was done. So again I waited another 4 days, no call so I called them and the owner and no one else even remembered talking to me!!! The guy didn't even know what my car was in the shop for and 3 different people told me 3 different things were wrong with it!. Very very unprofessional people and my UBER ride to drop off and pick up my car was almost $50. Take your car to Shifting Gears which is right next door. I have gone there for years but thought I would give this new guy a chance..very very bad idea !
This place used to be called Affordable Auto and now it is Keys Custom. The old owner left FL after Irma apparently and some guy named Justin now owns the place and touts his many years of work as a mechanic and how awesome his place is. A few months ago, the regulator on our van went out and since I had used this place before for repairs I told my wife to take it there first, because we needed it done in a hurry for a trip. Well Justin taped up the window and told me to call him for the parts. I called to get an estimate and he told me it would be about $100 for the regulator and we also needed a new motor. He quoted me $600 for a new motor. I was like what?!! I have bought parts and done repairs myself and even though this is a VW, I knew there was no way that it was a $600 part. So, I did my own research, checked online at some of the places where I have bought OEM parts before and turns out that I could get it for around $60, and that was even from a VW dealership. I called him back and confronted him with the price and he got all defensive and tried to lie his way out of it. First, he told me, that's what it cost, so he can order the parts and do the job for $150. Or he said, I could get the parts myself and then he would still install them, but for $200 OR, I could do it myself or find someone else. He claimed that he gets his parts from CarQuest, here on Stock Island, and that's what they charge and it's so he can return the part if it is wrong and that I can call them myself... I told him I would. CarQuest told me there is no way they would charge that much and that at MOST, a repair place could charge MAYBE $300 or so... AVOID THIS PLACE, it is no longer Joe and his son, who were honest and like his sign said out front, NO BULLSH*T. But this place is nothing but BULLSH*T now, so DO NOT USE THEM, they will try to steal from you.... On a side note, I had posted a review about this place a while ago, but am not sure what happened to it. Stay away from this place, like another reviewer said, seems like this guy is too concerned with being on TV and less with his customers. Fortunately, this all happened to us before he tried to get famous, not that that helped at all....
Absolutely horrible experience with Justin and Keys Customs. A problem had come up with one of my fleet trucks. The problem was that coolant was getting into the oil system and oil in the coolant system. Now I'm no mechanic, but with what was happening I was thinking head gaskets, or maybe the radiator since it cools the oil as well. Three times this truck was brought to Justin with this problem and each time he would flush the radiator and give the truck back to us. Due to this incompetence on his part to diagnose the correct problem, I'm now out a little over $6000 to replace the now blown motor. Now due to his TV show endeavor, which is obviously Justins main concern (not his customers vehicles), my truck has been pawned off to the mechanic next door and while waiting for him to get the motor replaced he out right lied about the status of the truck, and had even told us the motor was in the truck and he had to hook up hoses, etc. I went to check on the truck and looked under the hood myself to see that the old motor was still in the truck, so again, he straight out lied to us. Don't be fooled by any of Justins shady business practices, or promises of fishing trips on his charter boat. If you value your vehicle, be very aware, and go elsewhere.
I have never had such an unprofessional experience on this island in 7 years of living here, until today. So I went to pick up my mother's jeep she had dropped off a few days prior to my visit today, 1-12-2018 and was greeted with ignorance and disrespect by the owner Justin. Besides directing his disrespectful language towards me, he had no issues cutting me off and cursing me out within his first sentence. He also had nothing else to say besides how he will gladly charge her more if she kept him waiting any longer. But besides the fact of never getting an estimate, checkup call or notification that work can be done, it's already finished and scammed out of $280 dollars for sub-par, unfinished work on our muffler and underbelly of the jeep. I would highly advise avoiding this mechanic shop, because knowledge in this field is key and it's no longer the old owner Joe and his son, whom will be greatly missed and whose shop was unfortunately taken over by a boastful and arrogant brat.
Needed a replacement Xenon headlight, so Lonnie and Max found the part quickly, so we were on our way quickly.Very good service and very comfortable lounge area. 5 Stars!
Wow, what great service. If you EVER have car trouble in Key West, this is the place to go. They are honest, and stand behind their work. We had an issue with our Subaru the day before we were to leave Key West and Joe said he could take care of us. They diagnosed the problem correctly and made the appropriate repairs. Unfortunately, the mechanic was in somewhat of a hurry and neglected to get a couple of spark plugs wires securely attached to a couple of plugs which were also loose. We took off the next day and half way to Ocala, the car started running rough again. We went to Ocala Subaru and they found the loose plugs and wire. They charged us $123 to fix it. I sent a letter to Joe explaining what happened and asked to be reimbursed for the $123. Joe not only covered the Subaru bill, but added extra and told us to have dinner on him. Just amazing customer service. Don't even consider going anywhere else in Key West!!!!!!
Not a good experience. I took my car in for some small areas to be painted and when I picked my car up 1 day after they originally planned I found the top of my leather console damaged. When I returned to question about this they were quickly on defense and wouldn't ask the painter who worked on my car about it. I'm not one to argue so of course I walked away with my head up. But I know for sure they did this damage. Basically the must have damaged my original top and replaced it with a new one with town leather. When taking your car for repairs you shouldn't leave with a new damage. Very disappointing because the paint jobs looked great.
have a house on Big Coppitt and they do a fantastic job servicing our 94 Jeep Wrangler... honest service, fair prices
We live in Suffolk, VA and was visited Key West on vacation. Our 2007 Saturn broke down and we needed help. The folks at Affordable Auto were totally helpful and didn't take advantage of us because we were out of towners. We trusted them and they repaired our car and it runs as good as new. Thanks for helping us doing our time of need. Tony and Cathy B.
