I went to Kensington Clock and Watch on July 23rd 2017 located at 10426 Armory Ave, Kensington, MD 20895 with my friend Karin for the repair of her two-tone ladies Rolex watch estimated as $9000. We left the watch with ALEX so he can give us the estimate for its repair. He called us back on July 25, 2017 and gave an estimate of $600 for the overhaul including fix balance, over hold, main spring and water resistance. I went back to Kensington Clock and Watch on July 25, 2017 and asked for the Rolex watch to be given back. Alex came down and took the watch out of a brown bag and hand me over the watch. I placed it my glove compartment wrapped in tissue paper. Apparently, they were expecting us to give them the order to fix it so they put the back cover lose and didn’t tighten it fully with when Alex returned Rolex back to me.We thought $ 600 was high so I posted the same on Yelp seeking estimates from other local jewelers. Sacramento Jewelers in Arlington gave us an estimate of $450; For the same that Alex quoted $600 for. So, I took the watch to Sacramento Jewelers on July 29th in Arlington. Once the master Jeweler looked at the watch he told me that the back cover is missing. I was bit shocked as the last person who took the back cover off was Yarkov at the Kensington Clock and Watch. It’s difficult to take the back cover off and same way it is difficult to put it back. They just hand tighten it back. We had the Rolex for few days considering what to do. So, I called Rolex and they advised that I take to their certified repair place. Liljenquist & Beckstead Fine Jewelers The Shops at Fairfax Square the office dealer of Rolex. http://www.liljenquistbeckstead.com/I took the Rolex to Liljenquist on August 7, 2017 and they gave an estimate of $ 1205 on August 12, 2017 See attached. There is no mention of items which were noted by Alex in his estimate. Not only Kensington Clock and Watch gave us false estimate but also gave me the Rolex back with the back cover lose. I’m seeking a payment of $1205 from Kensington Clock and Watch for negligence. In the event your office can’t resolve this matter I’ll be obliged to file a law suit.
Two of my friends had their wrist watches fixed at the Kensington Clock shop. They were happy with the service. The watchmaker took some time, but the repair was completed, the watches were cleaned and in good working order. I recommend Kensington Clock Shop.
I had a terrible experience with these people. They took twice as long to do the repair of my clock and they exceeded their estimate by 20%. They did not communicate with me at any time, it was up to me to pursue them. I just wish I had taken my business elsewhere.
