Founded in 1946, Gates Bar-B-Q is one of the original restaurants that made Kansas City, Mo., famous for its barbecue. Operating from six restaurant locations, Gates serves ribs by the tray, meat by the pound and a variety of sandwiches. The restaurant also offers catering for wedding receptions, birthday parties and large private gatherings. Gates barbecue sauce is available at retail outlets throughout Kansas City and at select locations throughout the United States. Besides its famous sauce, what sets Gates apart is the service. Each employee learns the fundamentals of customer care at the Gates College of Bar-B-Q Knowledge, better known as Rib Tech.
