First Key Homes

Never rent from this company. My original property management company Benchmark homes was bought out by First Key approximately 3 years ago. First Key immediately raised the rent an excessive amount and was unwilling to fix a mold issue in our basement until we gave them notice we were moving out almost 3 months later. Not surprisingly, they still charged me an early termination fee of a full month’s rent and tried to hassle me about giving verbal notice and then written notice a few days later. They tried to charged me an additional &200+ for a partial month’s rent. The receptionist up front is rude and doesn’t pass on messages in a timely manner, I have had to personally go to the office on three separate occasions to speak to someone who could help me. I was told my refund for deposit would be delivered on 9/13, then was informed it was stuck at the headquarters for some reason when I visited on 9/19. I went in today, 9/25 because I still hadn’t received it and was told the post office rejected it because the address was wrong. I provided our correct address so I’m not sure what the deal is. I will say the property manager Amanda has been very friendly and professional during this time in dealing with my frustrations. Come to find out, she isn’t even our property manager, but our actual one never returned my calls. When I visited today the employees were making fun of a tenant for answering the phone while in the middle of something, “well, maybe you should pay your rent on time.” I found this to be a fitting conversation to overhear as I’m sitting in their lobby still waiting for my money to be returned to me. This company is literally the worst. I just want my deposit back so I can be done with them and never have to deal with them again.
