Best Opa ( Hawaiin Fish) on the Big Island. We spent days looking for a great local restaurant & this is it! The service was great too!

Where's the rest of my fish?

So imagine traveling all over the island. Hiking and swimming and working up a huge appitite. You remember you are going out to dinner so you eat a little less throughout the day to compensate for the large amounts of food you plan to eat later.

So this is me and I find myself at Jackie Rey's for my big dinner plans. We arrive hungry and order quickly after we are told all of the yummy specials. We also decide on water to drink after we notice the hefty price tags we will be payng for our meals. But no worries I am sure the food will be worth it. I notice little plates by our napkins and think we might also be getting bread before dinner. After thinking about this bread for a long long time before the waiter brings us tiny toast with cheese melted on top. 5 of them. So we take little bites and chew slowly. When our meal does arrive we stair in amazement. Tiny little cuts of fish balanced on top of tiny servings of mashed potates and a lot of plate space with sauce drawings all about. We finish as quick as we ordered. We are still hungry. We decide against desert. We are already out over $60 for dinner.
I guess overall food was so yummy. But it was the size of an appitizer. we felt so cheated. The price was way to high for what you get.

We had an outstanding experience there.

We married in Kona and at the last minute decided to change our plans for our rehersal dinner. Jackie Rey's was recommended to us and as soon as we walked through the door, our experience was exceptional. The owner spoke with us and put together a meal for 30 for the next night, costomizing it to our price range and needs. Arriving the next day, the resturaunt was nicely set up for our party and the wait staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive. The food was delicious. Though slighly outside of the main part of town, there is still an ocean veiw from a charming porch. This experience was a highlight of our wedding and we are very grateful to Jackie Rey's for providing it.
