KIMO left us stranded on the side of the road when he knew we were broken down at 3 in the afternoon on a weekday. He answered the phone the first time and then told me to call him back once after we had tried to get a jump from a passing samaritan (thinking it was a battery issue). The jump didn't work and the car died again. I called him OVER AND OVER AND OVER and he screened my calls all afternoon/ evening. We used our own AAA account to get it towed back to Kimo's Rental Car once we realized that we would be on our own and the "Emergency Hotline" was good for nothing. We had to take an Uber back to our lodging and another one back to Kimo's in the morning. The most ridiculous part of this whole story is that in the midst of this catastrophe, I figured that I'd try calling the "Emergency Hotline" from the place that we were having dinner, assuming that he was screening my phone number. He didn't answer the first time but he CALLED BACK the local 808 number saying "I just had a missed call from this number". WHAT ABOUT THE 20 MISSED CALLS FROM YOUR CUSTOMER STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD?!?!?! Would never rent from them again and would never recommend anyone to rent from Kimo's.
www.mauicarrentaldiscount.com is my choice for car rentals when visiting Maui. I get the best price for rentals cars at OGG airport.
Moved to Maui and while waiting for matson to deliver my car, rented from Kimo. I got a 2004 top of the line Camry, wonderfully beat up. Loved that car. Didn’t have to lock it or worry about dings. So worth driving around like a local. If you want a worry free vacation and half the cost of other rental companies then Kimo is your place!
We love Kimo's, cars are waiting for you at the airport parking lot with keys in key box and you return them to same place, so easy!! no waiting in lines or taking a bus to rental cars. And they have the best prices and best customer service on Maui!! I have rented from them everytime I go home to Maui and can't wait to book my next rental.
In every way this a terrible place to rent. I knew going in that I was renting a used van. I paid the extra and reserve the newer used van. What a hunk of junk and scary to drive. 1. Dirty, disgusting vehicles.2. Broken window that didn't roll up3. Duck tape use to hold things together4. Plan on paying $15 upon exiting the parking lot regardless of when you pick it up.5. Parked furtherest edge of parking lot6. Lock box rusted and difficult to open7. Gas guzzlers8. No customer service available after hours, even on after-hours number.9. Poor customer service when available. 10. I received a $35 parking ticket and Kimo's charged me an additional $50 processing fee. 11. I had to go back to Kahului to exchange vehicles. They gave me, what they said was their best van. (see picture of carpet of their best van) I have to say it was a lot better than the first one, but if that was thier best...do not rent from them unless you want a broken, dirty, safety sketchy vehicle. When I first got into the van, gas gauge showed only 4bars (about 1/4 tank). They said on the dash not to let their cars go below 1/4 tank, probably because they are gas guzzlers and the gas gauges may be faulty. I drove to Starbucks to get a drink which is a couple miles from the the airport. The bars on the gas gauge had dropped 1 bar, I drove another couple miles to the gas station and the gas gauge dropped another bar. (see picture) The next day I had to go back to Kahului to get another car. This time they said they were giving me their best van. Really??? The only thing good about it was that we all had a good time laughing about it. Also all of our friends that were in Maui wanted to always drive!!
They are super complicated to deal with, they don't really care about helping you. Horrible cars, horrible service.
Alamo at OGG airport (Kahului, HI) was very organized, greeted you promptly & even called you by name to Welcome you to Maui ! They had copies of our car contract with them, & they immediately took us to the lot to get our car. They were out of Hyundai Santa Fe Std. SUV we reserved so they gave us a Nissan Murano SUV with a navigation upgrade. The car was brand new with 5000 miles on it, spotlessly clean inside & out, we went over the contract details, they gave us a $ 25.00 coupon discount, we did our joint inspection of the car & we were on our way in 20 mins. They were excellent to deal with ! I would rent from them again. And when we returned the car to them it was just as easy. Excellent customer service.
windows were dirty. passenger side door stuck. have rented from National many times was disappointed this time.
Car is filthy, engine light on, needs maintance light on, tire pressure bad. safety features missing 1) visors 2) head restraint. had to have car jump started 3 times. Tried call you no answer and and left voice mail no return calls to rectify. Notied Adam on Jan 13th would be returning junk car. Also I was suppose to receive 10% discount never received. I was told when reservation made it would be done when billing done. Bottom line for 1 week with 10% discount I owe $140.00. That's all I agree to pay. Original reservation was for 4 weeks. Bottom line if you want a throw back car from high school go for it. Other wise DONT RENT HERE. BTW car seat filthy ruined my wifes pants with stains.
Highly recommend. After lots of research we received a great price on a car on Maui. Kahului OGG airport cool rainbow.
