Business Transactions
The wide range of legal experience among Simpson Tillinghast Sheehan, P.C.’s attorneys cover many different areas of the law, particularly regarding representation of Southeast Alaska Municipalities, established Southeast Alaska for-profit and nonprofit businesses, Native regional and village corporations, and Native housing authorities, and complex corporate and business transactions and litigation. The Firm represents and acts as general counsel to Tlingit- Haida Regional Housing Authority (for over 30 years), Sealaska Corporation (for over 35 years), and Baranof Island Housing Authority (for over 10 years). Mr. Tillinghast has been qualified by both the State of Alaska and the University of Alaska for specialty litigation in the field of civil rights and employment law. He has successfully defended the Alaska Legislature, the State of Alaska, the University of Alaska, and other large institutional clients from a wide range of civil rights and wrongful termination claims.

Construction Litigation
James Sheehan’s practice includes providing legal advice and counsel to the firm’s institutional clients, and civil litigation in the following areas of law: construction, administrative, condominium, property, contracts, commercial and real estate. Mr. Sheehan has litigated disputes involving contracts, construction claims, property rights, partnership dissolutions and disputes, corporate governance disputes, and other general and complex litigation before courts and administrative agencies throughout Alaska.

Personal Injury
Throughout her career, Kristen has achieved tremendous success in her litigation efforts and, in particular, her persuasive motions and appellate work. She has adeptly litigated complex disputes in a broad variety of fields, including but not limited to personal injury, professional negligence, insurance bad faith disputes and class actions. Kristen also specializes in municipal law, business litigation, and real property matters.

Tax Law
As a specialist in oil and gas law, Mr. Tillinghast served as the supervising attorney of the State of Alaska’s oil and gas tax litigation task force through 1982, and since then has represented a number of major oil companies on tax and royalty matters. On the public side of the ledger, he successfully defended Alaska’s separate accounting income tax law for oil companies through the United States Supreme Court. On the private side, he successfully negotiated the first significant royalty reduction for any oil producer on State of Alaska lands, as well as the first forgiveness of so-called Amerada Hess liability for back oil royalties.
